SD Card logging

Post by cmonref »

In the drawing that follows this statement in SD Datalogging in the MS-3 section of the Manual, what do "To Switch Input" in the left diagram and "To Output" in the right diagram mean?
Button / light Wiring and usage

Within "insertion" mode you do not need the button. It is required for "button" mode to start and stop datalogs.
The LED/light output is optional in either mode but can be helpful to more quickly diagnose any error conditions and confirm that logging is happening. It is recommended when using button mode. When using the MS3X spark outputs, it is likely convenient to set the "middle LED" as the LED output as zero wiring is required.

When you configure SD logging in TunerStudio, you must pick an input wire for the pushbutton. There is a dedicated datalog wire on the MS3X card which most people use for this purpose. The output is optional, but it's the same thing - you pick an output wire for the indicator light.

VolvoGuy50,

Thanks for your answer, but it leaves the question begging in my MS-neophyte mind.
When you configure SD logging in TunerStudio, you must pick an input wire for the pushbutton. There is a dedicated datalog wire on the MS3X card which most people use for this purpose. The output is optional, but it's the same thing - you pick an output wire for the indicator light.
The "dedicated datalog wire on the MS3X card" is labeled "D/log In (gnd)" which puts looks like it puts a ground wire on BOTH sides of the switch in the left diagram. That's not going to do much ...

For the "to output" wire on the right diagram, "you pick an output wire for the indicator light" doesn't tell me how to CHOOSE the output wire. Obviously a ground is needed, but just any old ground will result in the light being ON when the MS is on. Maybe the "to output" is really the "D/log in (gnd)" wire, which -- I'm guessin' here -- becomes a ground when the SD card is datalogging?

use one of the LED outputs on the mainboard (The ones normally used for WUE or spark outputs).

OK, maybe I undestand which wires to use:

For the "switch input": MS3X pin 30 for Datalog in (active ground).

For the LED "output": MS3 pin TBD to use D15 for Datalog LED

Now to figure out how to use the two sources and bring D15 out to a pinout.

Thanks!

That's just over complicating things. If you use the mainboard LED, just look at it where it is.

Otherwise pick one of the other output choices in the dropdown - such as one of the MS3X mid-current outputs and connect a 12V LED or small bulb to it as shown in the diagram on the manual page.

Refresh the second picture. I added bulb wiring for clarity too.

I am needing assistance with this topic, but the diagram image links no longer work. Can someone send me images of the two diagrams in this post? I am for sure needing the diagram with the modified image that shows the bulb added as well.

Those diagrams are in the Hardware Manual. See "Manuals" above.
