V3.0 assembly

Post by Carl M »

Hi,

(newbie alert :RTFM: )

Assembling MS 3 V3.0 board, EDIS spark.

Instructions say put C30 in H1 / Boot. Do I then put anything in C30? (buy another cap or leave open)

Thanks

Carl

As i'm just soldering the V3.0 board i'm a bit confused on the polarity of C30? How to identify + ?
There's no longer lead on C30, C10, C2, C9 (DIY kit from DIY Autotune), frontside K5K (not sure with the 5), backside 224 labeled

Leave C30 empty.

You only need to pay attention to polarity with C14, C16, C17, C22. The rest of the capacitors can be inserted in any orientation.

Why keep H1 empty? 've an assembly guide from extraefi.co.uk and just read http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3assemble.htm.

I've a MS2 V3.0 DIY, a MS3X and MS3x. I'm confused with the assembly. I thought MS2 V3 is the base board and MS3/ MS3X is the brain and used to connect all the sensors (instead of MS2 V3). So i don't need any mods on MS2 V3??

He didn't say keep H1 empty; he said leave C30 empty and use that component in H1.

Ok. Thanks. I'm back on the train. As ENG isn't my mother language there're soretimes some misunderstandings or misinterpretations.
I struggled about the H1 issue because it's empty (but assembly guide says use C30 in H1 and keep C30 open) In most assembly pictures.

Exact!
Why is there a component solded in the C30 posision @ the Pictures Then?
This is confusing me because neither I have English as my mother Language.

Some types of builds - usually ones that trigger off the negative terminal of the coil - require this capacitor. Most builds do not.

Read the MS3 assembly guide when assembling an MS3.

Is it worth sticking a 0.22uF where the 'old' boot header goes on an MS2 V3? Sorry to expand the thread. :D

Yes, that is what we are talking about. It smooths the "battv" reading.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life but I'm having these voltage spikes as well with low z injectors on an MS2 v3.0 that I built years ago and am finally getting around to putting it in the car. I've done a bunch of searching and combing through the MS documentation but for some reason can't figure out where/what the H1/Boot is that I should attach the capacitor to.
13) As long as you’re NOT using the coil –ve as the trigger input (Fuel only) find C30 and instead install it in H1/Boot (This adds smoothing to the battery voltage measurement and reduces the chance of noise getting injected into the CPU from the 12V line.)
I looked in the old documentation I have and I wasn't able to find this suggestion that is in the latest docs so I'm pretty sure I probably didn't do it.

Can someone point me in the right direction on this?

Thanks!

Never mind, I finally found it. Was thrown off the track by some references of it being near Q9, finally found one saying it was near pin 26 on the CPU and now I see it.
