Crank Trigger 18-2-2-2 Wheel

Post by bpetkus »

Ok guys I need help with setting up an OEM trigger wheel.

Applications: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep V6/I6 applications 1991+

These vehicles are equipped with a 18-2-2-2 trigger wheel. The wheel is part of the flywheel or flexplate. It has 3 groups of 4 open windows on the wheel with 2 missing windows between the groups.
I am not sure if i can use the (Subaru) 36-2-2-2 crank trigger method and change 36 to 18, if that is possible. Since this trigger method uses windows instead of teeth megasquirt will most likely have to invert the trigger signal in the software.
I did not check the location of the wheel at #1 TDC or at cam sync. I can provide that info if needed.

can someone give me some direction or add a 18-2-2-2 trigger support.

Thanks much!

That would have to be a custom wheel decoder, so as the code is now, it won't run with that wheel.

Megasquirt is not for use on pollution controlled vehicles. Any advice I give is for off road use only.

Two Jeep patterns are included in the recent alpha firmwares, although whether it covers your application I'm unsure.
The patterns look like:

I can't find the reference to the other pattern that the code is intended to support.
I've called the wheel modes Jeep 2000 and Jeep 2002.

The "2000" code expects a single cam tooth, the "2002" code needs that funky cam pattern.

I m on the same project. I produce MS3X for tuners but this time i do the install.

All the signals (inj, ign, crank cam) match the stock running engine (on the stock ECU). But when cranking it kick bacward !!!

I added 2 trigger wheel pattern on the Jimstim.
1:Stock 4.0l as above ( moded stock jimstim signal, cam falling and rising half between 5-3 and 2-4, was not the case with the original jimstim signals)

2: Moded cam phase 4.7l stroked engine. rising cam 2 teeth before the stock. Same fo falling cam.

Its for testing purpose.

The megasquirt run in parallele of the stock ecu. The stock ECU control everything now. Megasquirt only logging.
On the jeep the signals are synced, but not n the jimstim ......well.....

Hi James.
The start and works well with Jeep 2000 settings.
BUT it still no synced.

It start well and run well. The kicking problem is solved by mismatch 2 ignition wires.
