95 Viper project

Post by turbo355 »

I picked up a 95 viper the other day , and i noticed in the newest beta firmware there is a Viper wheel mode in there, witch wheel pattern is this suppose to be for, JTEC or the 60-2 wheel ?

I plan to do some testing in the next few weeks on this if i can get some help with the crank wheel setup.

That would be JTEC, although I'm not sure if it is the '95 and earlier or '96 and later cam pattern.

Thanks Matt , will the viper trigger mode in work with this wheel or would it be better to put an external 60-2 wheel on the damper?

It's not tested, but I'm sure James would love to have a tester!

Well i did a little preliminary testing tonight ( just hooking the cam and cranks signals up) and set the MS3 to Viper wheel mode and i can confirm that i get a clean cranking and running tach signal to the MS3. Next is actually wiring up the patch harness to plug into the stock harness so i can switch between the stock ecu and the MS3 .

I had the car dynoed today to get a baseline to start from.

The firing order is 1-10-9-4-3-6-5-8-7-2

The coils are wasted spark and paired 1-6 5-10 8-9 4-7 2-3

The coils are paired with opposite angled cylinders.

cyl 1 = 90deg cyl 6 = 54deg
cyl10 = 54deg cyl 5 = 90deg does the code "know" this ?

So i guess 1-6 = spark a
5-10 = spark b
8-9 = spark c
4-7 = spark d
2-3 = spark e

It should do. Even individual cylinder spark trim works per-cylinder with wasted spark.

Good stuff. Have you confirmed that timing is correct on all cylinders ?

Not yet i did for cylinder 1 but i need to make another TDC mark for cylinder 6 and make sure it matches the light .

Should i do that for all cylinders ?

I will get some video up tonight .

I have to go on vacation this coming week so i wont have much time to work on it until i get back , but i do plan on finishing the project up ( assuming no problems hardware or code related).

I am amazed at how well it fired up ,once i verified the wiring was correct ,and cyl.1 was firing at the right time, the first time i actually tried to start the car it fired right up.

Yes. As you are the first user of this code we need to confirm that the timing is as planned.

I am preparing to run a JTEC-triggered v10 viper engine in a few days.

Is the support for this mode available in the 1.0.5a release? or is it only available in the beta firmware?

thanks!

It is only available in the 1.1 firmware which is now the release firmware. (1.0.5a is superceded.)

Gotcha, thanks!!

Looks like it's all there. Any idea what the Trigger Angle / Offset should be to get us started?

While I am at it, what about input capture edge - rising? falling?

I'll be sure to post our MSQ once we get it running. Hoping Friday.

Here is my base map i used .

The cam and crank are feed 8V from the factory , i made a 8v regulator to feed these with a 10k pullup to 5v on each sensor output for the input to the MS crank and cam.

Also i have a factory service manual and some of the wiring in the wiring diagrams for the ecu diagrams are wrong , so be sure to check your wire colors when your wiring it up.
