help with subaru wrx ej257 (36-2-2-2)

Post by JoseMiguel »

im megasquirting a subaru WRX 2008, it has the EJ257 engine.

We never got it working with the stock trigger (im almost sure it is a 36-2-2-2) so it is using a 36-1 wheel. It works fine, but as a personal project I would really like to make it work with the stock trigger, as I could get rid of the wheel and, why not do it if it is supported?

when I connect the stock trigger to the MS, I get a nice signal, but no matter what I try (rising or falling) it looses sync every rotation.

I was wondering if this trigger requires the cam sensor.

I had problems connecting to the cam sensor but it appeared to finally work, but the cam sensor gives 3 pulses per every rotation, im not sure if that would work. The car has two cam sensors, im using the right one. My guess is that the left one would work equally fine but require a spark re-centering.

thanks!

It should work... I got my ej205 to work straight away with the standard 36-2-2-2 wheel and sensor. MS2 on a v2.2 board using an LM1815 VR conditioner, cam position sensor not connected.

That is what I thought but I have not been able to make it work. Signal looks good but looses sync every revolution at the same place. It almostmakes me wonder if this subaru has another trigger wheel different from the 36-2-2-2

There is another one... 6 or 7 tooth or something like that isn't it? Have you taken your timing covers off to visually identify your crank wheel?

Yes, it looks exactly like the 36-2-2-2... I did not count the tooth one by one but at simple sight looks exactly like that

Is the stock trigger from an unmolested 2008 ej257

Post a composite log.
I think the 6-cyl uses a DIFFERENT 36-2-2-2 pattern which is not presently supported as we'd never heard about it until very recently.

any solution on this? I can see in I have two cam sensors and both are hall effect type on a 2008 usdm wrx ej25 im megasquirting at the moment (ms3x)

I also looks like the square wavelength varies...

That picture is the 36-2-2-2 VVT pattern.

You will need to set the unit for Hall effect sensors. If you're using VVT, you will need both sides.

matt, I will leave VVT control to the stock ecu, as well as throttle control, so that way I would have to use only one of the cam sensors? which?

and for future use, if I where to control VVT with the MS3X which input should I connect the other cam sensor signal?

EDIT by the way this is a usdm ej25, it seems they have different teeth on japanese or euro ej25s?
cheers
