Race Coils install on a C20Let

Post by botasjr »

hi

im having spark problems on a opel with turbo engine C20LET.
on boost higher than 1.2 i dont have spark,

this engine have a very good preparation, but is using the stock coil wasted spark,
on 1 bar of boost i have 366 Bhp, and i need to reach 2 bar of boost.

wath coils do you recomend?

im thinking to buy 4 Race coils from Diyautotune, and conect them on a wasted spark formation, im using an MS3 without expander, just only the bosch BIp´s,

someone can help me to make the conections inside the ecu?

A friend runs his c20let to 7500rpm and 300kpa with the stock single coil. An NA c20let was on the borderline at 8000rpm on a single coil. Now on a VW coilpack.

The IGN-1As should have no trouble lighting the mixture off, but they need a 5 volt logic level signal instead of a BIP373.

Search for 106b on here and you'll find more info on them.

Don't know how the ms3 works but i needed a 330ohm pull-up resistor for the 5v logic signal

What setup does the car have? 366 @ just 1 bar is really good!

the engine have some very good parts,

all forged
diferent camshafts to open more 1.2mm
8.2 compresion
GT3071R
etc
its a ralicross specification

i thing i dont have very good spark with the original coil, because im not using the bosch ignition module,
meanwhile, i have instaled the AEM coils, that the costumer bought, and i get very big misfires, worse than original coil,
i have a strong spark testing the coils, but with the engine runing, misfires a lot when the turbo cames on,

im going to install new spark plugs, and new magnecor wires,

someone know the values of dweel, kind of dweel, etc to introduce on the software?
i have wrote on the software what written on the AEM manual, but they dont refer the type of dweel, if it is, standard, fixed, etc.

im using the MS3X cardo to control the AEM coils.

What dwell do you have at the moment? What spark plug gap are you running?

Except for having an AEM sticker on them, they're the same as the IGN-1 (dumb coils) and IGN-1As (smart coils) we sell.

i have installed brand new spark plugs, because i descovered that the old ones have the ceramic floating on the metal,
and now the engine runs fine, even at 1.8 bar of boost, with original coil pack controled by 2 bips,

but

i have the AEM coils instlled on the car too, with magnecor cables,
4 aem coils, on wasted spark configuration, controled by the 4 ignition outputs of the ms3x card,
but with this coils runing, the engine just rev to 4500 rpm, after that, is like launch control,

attached there is the 2 msq files,

could be the spark duration value the problem?
i have whrite the values that AEM reffer on the manual, but for a wasted spark can create the problem, i have thinking al day about this value.

whats the diference between Dweel and spark duration?

Dwell is the time it takes the coil to charge. Spark duration is how long the coil is discharging.
MS3+X on 73 Karmann Ghia ignition only with LS2 truck coils firing in sequential, fuel next.
2333(103*70) Type 4 with DTM also sitting in living room just need exhaust.

correct,
but it is possible to control the spark duration????
i thing just only the dweel is controled by the ecu.

The spark duration is a function of the coil and how much energy you put into it. The setting in Megasquirt is how much time to allow for the spark to occur.
