MS3X in Jeep V8
Hello everybody.
I am from Spain and I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 5.2 liters.
I am new in reprogramming and Megasquirt. I bought a MS3X more than a year ago and now I am trying to install it in the Jeep.
I have several questions, but the most important now for me is the next:
Which type of Crank wheel I must choose in the Spark Mode on TunerStudio?
Thanks in advance.

Toothed wheel. This has an 8 tooth crank wheel and a 1 tooth cam wheel. We have a Grand Cherokee running on a MS3-Pro at our shop.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
I have done some work on the jeep. I can see in TunerStudio manifold air temp., coolant temperature, throttle position...but I can't see the engine speed.
I have checked the crank wiring to MS3 and it seems ok (jeep signal cable: Red/light-blue, pin 8 and ground cable Black/light blue, pin 4 Powertrain Module Connector C1).
What can be happening?
I attached ignition configuration on TunerStudio
Thanks.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
Can you post your MSQ and a composite log of an attempted start?

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
The Jeep is running with its own injection and I have only done the crank sensor, coolant and air temp., throttle and the IAC motor.
I would like to see the most important things running well before work on fuel injection and ignition...I want to go step by step (is my current daily car for two months).
I don't know how to do "composite log of an attempted start", but if it's necessary, I will try to do that..
Thanks

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
You need the cam sensor too - you can't run this trigger wheel without it. Otherwise, how will the ECU know which of the 8 teeth go with what crank angle?

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
Ok. I have just wired the cam sensor.
Then, will the Crank Sensor work now?

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
I have another problem. Now, my PC isn't able to connect to the ms3 controller.
I have changed the USB cable, but that is the same.
The error says:
No controller found
Check your connections and be sure you have COM port drivers installed
Consult your serial cable for the correct drivers.
Any idea?
Thanks.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
Please run the Port Check program with the ECU connected and powered up, and post a screen shot of the results you get.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
That Port Check program looked like it just found a mouse port and did not find a USB to serial adapter. What sort of USB adapter are you using? Or are you using a built in serial port?

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
I have the USB cable that came with MS3X (and I bought a new one, too).
I will check again the setting of the RS232-to-USB cable in my PC and then I will try to connect to the MS3...
Thanks.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
I have used both a USB cable and today a RS232-to-USB cable.
The attachment file was with the USB cable.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
The USB cable wasn't showing up in the port check.
To check up on it and find out what port the USB adapter is using, first make sure the adapter is plugged in and its light is on. Then right-click My Computer and select Manage. Select Device Manager at the left, then scroll down the right hand column until you find the entry that says "Ports (COM & LPT)". Click the plus sign next to it. You should see an entry that looks like "USB Serial Port (COMx)" where x is the number of the port it has grabbed.
If it's grabbed a port number higher than 10, I recommend changing it to a lower number. Double-click the USB Serial Port item. Then select the Port Settings tab at the top of the box that pops up and click the button marked Advanced. You will see a new screen where you can specify the COM port number; set it to a number less than 11 that is not already in use. Then click OK to close that screen, and OK to close the Properties box. This will set your USB adapter to a lower port number.

Re: MS3X in Jeep V8
I have followed your instructions, the USB cable was in COM 10, I lowered it to COM 3, but it didn't work.
I have taken a few days off. I have installed a new RS232-to-USB cable in the laptop (COM4) and I will check it with the MS3 on Thursday. I hope that it works...

Portcheck showed that COM3 was already in use. Pick any number except 3.montelibre wrote:I have followed your instructions, the USB cable was in COM 10, I lowered it to COM 3, but it didn't work.
