Boost control table switching + OFF switch/wiring?

Post by E30_Driv3r »

Hey all,

I've pondered on this for awhile and after not getting anywhere thought I should ask the community. I am running a ms3-pro module on a turbocharged BMW e36 and want to wire in a switch that allows the solenoid to be off (wastegate spring press.), and the two respective boost tables. I was using an AEM tru-boost previously for boost control and found it really nice and convienent that I had those same three options at the touch of a button. I want to mimic that setup now with ms and the part where I'm getting stuck is finding a way (and a switch) upto the task of powering on/off the solenoid and toggling through a "solenoid ON, table 1 or 2" setting as well. I know I can simply run a switch inline with the 12V for the solenoid and then another to toggle the two tables but I'm looking to do this as cleanly as possible. Has anyone done what I'm looking to do and if so how did they go about it? What kind of switch was used? I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a good clean way to go about this.

Thanks!

Something like this?

You have a II 0 I switch.

Maybe this?

I believe that you might be able to wire it as you need.

Using a relay as well as the switch prevents back-feeding of the power to the optoisolator without getting into big diodes that are just going to run hot anyway. You could use another small relay instead of the opto.

checking back in as I have some ideas...dont125 I appreciate the diagram, but i'm having a hard time understanding whats going on? :(

I've attached my proposed 3-boost setting plan...i'm kinda sorry it looks like a grade 4 computer class kid's work.

what I got going on is...

OFF switch position = No boost control, solenoid powered off

ON-1 switch position = circuit completed to solenoid, boost setting #1 (uses Duty/PID table 1)

ON-2 switch position = circuit completed to solenoid, table switch input grounded = boost setting #2 (uses Duty/PID table 2)

Will it work?

Switch centered - off
Switch left - coil off, solenoid powered through NC contacts; opto off, boost table 1
Switch right - coil on, solenoid powered through NO contacts; opto on, swap pin grounded, boost table 2

I could probably reconstruct it from my comments above, but with a few more years of thinking about these things, I'd suggest just using a DP3T toggle or rocker switch. Some of the selections from Mouser or Digikey are pretty ecenomical. Two of the positions on one pole power the solenoid; one position on the second pole grounds the MAP swap pin.
