Egt question
I have Ms3 with the msx card with several other mods. I would like to be able to use 6 egt inputs to tune my car. My Ms3 does not have canbus on it what options do I have? Can I upgrade to canbus like trade my old in or is there another way to wire up 6 egts?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Egt question
All MS3s have a CAN bus. It may not be wired to your connector but check to make sure. If that's really the case, it's simply a question of running some wires to spare connector pins or to a new connector.
And that's the only way to get 6 EGTs; there aren't enough analog inputs on the MS3 to do it directly. You can use the DIYAutotune unit or you can use one of my units (check my forum (link in signature) or contact me).

I would like to run a spare connector for canbus. Is there some documentation on where I would wire these from?

Re: Egt question
The jumpers for the CAN wires are covered in the MS3 Hardware manual PDFs. See the manuals link above.

Re: Egt question
(Easy for me to find because I wrote it)
Try here:
MS3base/V3.0 Hardware Guide
3.4.12
CAN comms
The CANH/L wires are used to connect to add-on units such as transmission control, CANEGT interfaces, data
capture or compatible dashboards.
The Megasquirt includes a terminating resistor.
To use the CAN connections, you need to run internal jumper wires:
JS6 -> SPR1 = CANH
JS8 -> SPR2 = CANL
This is also mentioned in the assembly section.

Re: Egt question
Racing mini I sent you a pm..
Also I got this figured out now thanks for the replies. I'm still a little lost why the newer ones have the plugs built on them with all the pins. What are they for if can bus only needs 2 wires

Re: Egt question
The DB9 connector on the left is for the RS232 serial connection and the DB15 connector on the right is for optional inputs/outputs. It is not a CAN connector. If the instructions are followed (as per James post and the manual), the CAN connections are 2 pins on the main DB37.

Re: Egt question
For the next release, I've updated the new hardware manuals to clarify what the connectors do to hopefully save this confusion in the future.

Re: Egt question
Just an suggestion:
Can't the DB15 plug be used for CAN-purposes?
IAW this, Pin 3, 10 and 11 is not used.
As this plug is for external inputs/outputs anyway.

Re: Egt question
Yes you could do that. However, all the wiring diagrams show the CAN pins on the main DB37 so that may be confusing. If not for you, it may be for some else looking at your setup or a new owner if you sell the unit.
And the standard won't be changed because there is no DB15 on the V3.0 board so the CAN pins have to be connected to the DB37. And having 2 different standards for the 2 boards would be confusing for everyone.
