VW 1.8T Sync err #2
Hi
I'm working on a brand new MS3 project on a vw 1.8 that use stock vr sensor with 60-2 Wheel. (single wheel wasted spark)
(I run my car on ms2/extra with the same setup and it work great)
At 6000rpm I have sync error #2, I don't see any bad thing in the tooth logger, everything look good there but hard glitches in the trigger logger.
I'm trying to understand the noise filtering page. the first value, global timer noise filter" is pre-set to 4 (How I can calculate that number?)
I tried to set noise filter on but it's just kill the engine at 6000rpm with basic values
Just to make sure I understand the noise filter curve time. Is the time between teeth or trigger? In that case:
500rpm=200us
3000=33,3us
6000=1.66us
8000=12.5us
Right? Should I had put lower values, higher or exact?
I also tried to put inline resistor 10k or 2x4.7k... it worst! misfires occurs at lower rpm
VR sensor signal is perfect on the scope
like this
can I remove a resistor to the stock vr conditioning circuit?
I've set trigger rise as the input capture (ms3 should reverse signal or not?)
Regards
Moteleb

VW 1.8T Sync err #2
Which mainboard? Make sure pots are fully ccw and if you built it, they are in the right positions. V3 no resistor, v3.57 10k inline.
Shielded vr sensor wiring?
I will upate with my noise filter settings in the morning but usually leave it off.

Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
V3.0 shielded with stock connector (use diy autotune wiring bundle)

Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
Ok after few adjustments on r52 9turns & r56 5turns I've got more rpm (7100 instead 6000) but sync error still present
Now I"m looking for replacing r45 and/r46 for lower values like 4.7k instead 10k
Previous V3.0 design uses 1k and higher value for c31.
what do uou think about this?

That will probably make things worse?moteleb wrote:Ok after few adjustments on r52 9turns & r56 5turns I've got more rpm (7100 instead 6000) but sync error still present

Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
I tried serial resistance on vr input (5 to 10k) like I seen on the net but it worst. More resistance=more sync error at lower rpm. By logic, less resistance=less sync error with higher RPM
Just changing r45 & r46 (not C31)

Have you tried completely turning off your noise filtering yet? I have done a couple dozen VW 60-2 tigger/VR sensor MS installs and using noise filtering has always given me sync loss issues.

Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
When the new firmware is installed, in the noise filtering menu, the very first value is set to 4 and noise filter enabled is set off
Do you talking about the first one by setting it to 0 ? If yes no I never tried this but yes for the rest.
I also made many megasquirted VW but this one is the first MS3 all other ones MS2/extra or MS/1 Mine run great on ms2/extra

Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
Post a composite log and a tooth log recorded at the troublesome RPMs.

Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
Double check all your vr circuit resistors. On a v3 I have never had to turn pots from fully ccw with any vw Vr sensor
Re: VW 1.8T Sync err #2
For VW, R45 & R46 resistance should be reduced with lower values than recent v3.0 boards release,
Older version of v3.0 as 1K but newer uses 10K. In that case there's not enough amperage going trough vr conditionning circuit at high RPM ton get correct teeth reading.
I decided to put 2.2K for both R46 R46... Now I can stretch connecting rods at over 8000rpm yeahh!
Every VW users should replace 10K by lower values!
