Re: BMW S62B50
The PT4 input is only designed for 5V.

Re: BMW S62B50
It was the diode to from 1k ohm resistor to 5v like on pt4 circuit for protection (I think).
You think is just that?
I will try tonight.
EDIT: Tonight I will change the pull up from 12v to 5v.

Re: BMW S62B50
This is the schematic I used.
I disconnect the wire that is on the back of ms3x (the ms3x plug side), and measured the resistance between it (directly to cpu, I think) and ground, 340 ohm.
Is it possible that the cpu is damage on this pin?
Any more suggestions?

Re: BMW S62B50
I have a friend that have a brend new ms3 CPU. I tried it, didnt load the firmware and msq. Just to do the same test, measure the resistance. My friend MS3 CPU doesn't have the knock module. Mine was it.
With it I measured 134 kohm. So probably the problem is on the CPU.
There is any test I must do so I can confirm it?
Is it possible to repair it?

Re: BMW S62B50
Cpu fixed (thanks James) and no cam fault flag.
Something to me I'm not understanding the reason to be working ok is, after I installed the cpu, I had the cam fault flag but I did like on Mario "s54 cam fault" and set the check tooth to 0 and level to low and the cam fault flag disappear.
Now I had other problem, I have a lost sync problem. When I rev it, at +/- 6500 rpm the lost sync counter rise and I have lost sync reason 2 (attached msl).
I tried a resistor inline, 10k, 12k and 20k and it didn't solve the problem.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Crank wheel 60-2

Re: BMW S62B50
Another problem,
The vanos are not working as aspected.
Monday All was working good on one day, even I tested on road to do a little ve tune.
Tuesday day I had 2 vvt output weren't working.
Today, after couples testes, nit2 doesn't work on VVT mode (normal and vvt test mode, I used a scope) but I try with main output test and working, I tried again with vvt and nothing. The Fidle vvt ouput, wasn't working too but I checked and on cpu pin I have the signal. So I checked the circuit, first the continuity between pin (resistor, transistor) and all was ok. I remembered the clamp circuit on Fidle and I tried to bypass the 1ohm resistor. I tested all and was all working with main output test and vvt test mode. Even the nit2.
But now when I use the vvt test mode, on VVT2 and vvt3 they work as wanted. ON vvt1 and vvt4 not. When I do on vvt1 it moves and the vvt4 moves too.
I attach the msq and datalog.

Re: BMW S62B50
I forgot to tell another thing. After all vvt output were working, the first time I tried vvt test mode, all advance outputs weren't working. I did a power cycle and it solved the problem.
Is possible that it is a problem with the software?

Re: BMW S62B50
About the problem of vvt1 and vvt4 moving together, I think the problem is hardware, something is making both circuit input. Im checking now.
EDIT: I found the problem, it was hardware. Besides this problem, the software seams to not be stable enough. Im using alpha 10. Would it help to use alpha 12?

Re: BMW S62B50
Vanos is working OK, but I have sync lost at +/- 6200 rpm.
I already tried with 10k, 12k, 20k, 22k inline crank resistor.
I attach the composite logger when this happen. I will attach a datalog this afternoon.
Any suggestion?

Re: BMW S62B50
Looks like it missed one real tooth on the crank.

How I can solve this? Any suggestion? maybe a high resistor on shunt? like 20k or more?Matt Cramer wrote:Looks like it missed one real tooth on the crank.

yes, remove the shunt resistor and remake the composite log

Re: BMW S62B50
Some news.
The sync lost seams to be solved. I have a plug between MS and the harness and it uses crimped terminals on male plug, I solder them and now the engine goes to rev limiter almost without sync lost (only if I stay to almost on rev limiter, like more then 20sec, it could get 1 sync lost)
Now I was trying to get the knock module working and I can't. The engine have a 94 mm piston bore, so the bandpass filter frequency is 6,04kz. I tried with 5,9 and 6,12 and nothing. I added 10deg at 4400rpm high load to induce knock and the knock gauge is always constant.
Another thing, please could you see if my ignition map is ok? Im using the ms Default map. I done some modifications on the coolant system and the customer is saying that the engine is hotter than usual . I just want to know if I have to most ignition advance.
I attached the msq file and a datalog (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ykt7kkhgexurq ... 8.msl?dl=0)

I have a feeling that the module does knock not dialogues with ecu... the setting is correct...
check wiring of the module.

Re: BMW S62B50
Besides the knock module problem and since I had the dyno test scheduled, this Saturday I did dyno tune.
I had some problems:
- If I had the usb cable connected to laptop, I will have lost sync at 5700 / 6000 rpm. If I disconnect it, I do dyno run to rev limiter without lost sync. Due to this, I can't tune vvt to 6000 and 7000 rpm column and I can't do datalogs on dyno runs.
- Since I had the previous problem, I tried to use de SD log but on TS it was reporting SD error, so no logs.
- So I try to tune with iteration method (change, test, change, test) and without laptop connected. So I used a programmable output to drive a LED to tell me when the afr is low than 13 (hysteresis 0.5).
- I have something happening at 5300rpm. Until then, I have a bit smoke (maybe 12.5 is too much this engine) then no smoke and the engine seams to knock. Maybe need more fuel but the afr isn't lower than 13.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: The dyno owner suggests me that maybe the Ms doesn't had good ground connections. I need to make more. I have two 2 mm wire (one for mainboard, other for ms3x), one 2 mm wire for bip373 ground and 2 more for iox board.
