Boost tach signal on MS3X - only relay coil required???

Post by jj84774 »

I have a MS3 / MS3X and I am trying to get it to work with my AutoMeter Tach. I am using the tach output on pin 26 of the MS3X and I have the JP3 jumper installed. Currently, the tachometer does not work until past 3500 RPM.

I'm guessing the tach signal is not strong enough at lower revs.

The new documentation describes using a only a relay coil to boost the signal (no transistor required?).

Previous MS documentation shows using a 2N5551 transistor and 1K limit resistor.

Will someone please verify the diagram in the current MS3X manual is correct?

Thanks,

Jim
