1.3.2a subaru 36-2-2-2

Post by Gix »

hello
I'm using ms3x 1.2.1 firmware and ej25 with 36-2-2-2 COP is running ok.
Tried to upgrade firmware to 1.3.2a all injection and spark settings and tables transfer from 1.2.1 msq

I've spent whole day trying to start engine (mostly changing ve settings and cranking pulse) without luck:/
it sync ok without spark and fuel.

My strobe lamp refuse to work while cranking:/ so i can't confirm if offset is correct

after flashing back to 1.2.1 car runs ok again.
I heard about 36-2-2-2 timing problem with older firmware... is it safer to use wasted COP?

where did you get that Tune from? ive noticed that your injector size is at 1200cc... is that what you have installed? And your VE Fuel table is different or has been changed... just wondering where you got the tune... and are you using the cam signal or just the crank?

Second attempt
this time i've put 1.3.3, msq from 1.2.1 and tried to start the engine.
No luck but i think this time it was much closer . didn't touch cranking pulse or anything else regarding fuel or spark.

Checking your composite log against the reference pattern I have:
Image
It looks like your cam signal is late. Sometimes the cam tooth edge is happening after the crank edge - this breaks the decoder?

Two options.
1. Is there any chance that the cam is 1 tooth off?

2. Try the latest pre-1.4 development firmware and enable the setting "Flip Polarity On Hi-Res Tach / Cam" - this should then trigger the cam on the first edge of the pulse and make the pulse happen when the code expects it.

Has anyone else seen this? Please post if you have.

Hello !!
more luck with the 1.4 beta :)
There are 2x 36 -2-2-2 triggers:
1st 36-2-2-2 is standard and does not work for me very well
2nd trigger is 36-2-2-2 VVT subaru

When you select one of the wasted 2 COP was ok
after a short cranking engine was alive :)
but when I changed to the COP .... nothing happened.... no back fire ... just cranking ...

I've tried " Reverse polarity on the Hi- Res Tach / Cam" but it doesn't work for me.
Thank you for your help

i grenaded my old engine and am rebuilding a newer version engine.

In collecting parts, i have discovered something. there are 2 different cm gears, both with the same 2tooth patern, but one has them advanced. it seems to be ej205vs ej257, not sure yet. but definitly 2 different ones.

hopefully i will be as the point of testing in a few days.

found it, i do not know if it is going to be what we are seeing, going to see if i can find a junk yard.

the pic attached shows both gears, however, the crank pully is different also, so i am thinking they were like that because of the shorter engine. so MAYBE it will all line up when on the right engines.

No luck. I had a problem with them right cam gear having a hair line crack. So i went back to the 6/7 trigger setup.

I removed cam sensor bolt, started the engine and moved sensor until it synced properly

finally after a long time engine starts and runs.
I've made custom bracket to hold my cam sensor in slightly different location (timing belt cover has a oval hole for sensor placement but bracket on the head puts it far to the one side, with my bracket it's in the middle of that oval hole)
I think it would be great feature just to adjust crank vs cam signal in TS for 36-2-2-2

best regards
