can the ms3 be used with a 6a13tt with stock sensors?

Post by sheek »

hi i have a mitsubishi legnum vr4 working on and the owner expressed interest in the megasquirt 3 with 3x expansion. he would like to operate it using all stock sensors. can this be done? and if so any info on how to wire up expecially the ignition side of things? what settings in the ignition options would have to be set? engine is a 1999 6a13tt this is a v6 2.5 engine. thanks for any help u can provide.

For those of us unfamiliar with that engine, could you provide more details?
Specifically:
What crank/cam triggering arrangement does it use?
Low-z or high-z injections?
What type of coils (high current or logic) and how many?
VVT ?

from what i gather injectors are low z with a resistor box
non vvt
logic coils like the evo
i cant find any info on the crank/cam triggering but i can tell u it carries a crank and a cam sensor.

ok from my reading the engine triggering config is similar to the 3000gt engine

It has two HALL sensors, one at the crankshaft and one at the camshaft.

The one at the crankshaft has three "flaps", and the one at the camshaft four, number one is bigger than the other three.

The number one flap on the crankshaft is "touching" the sensor when Piston one is reaching TDC, at that time the biggest flap on the
crankshaft is just leaving the second sensor...

can i use 6g72 mode in tunerstudio to setup the ignition?

thanks

I'd try 6G72 mode first, and if it doesn't work, post an MSQ and tooth log here.

What RPM do you think the engine is doing? Is 150RPM sensible? Is "RPM Sync" lit up ?

It would be worth posting a regular datalog and a composite log also.

update

got the car started and began tuning in 6g72 mode

having an issue where the car pulls back around 6k rpm and backfires with load

flat revving i can hear like straining around that rpm but i can painfull flat rev through it

fuel when this is happening is right and no sync loss reported by squirt

here is a datalog and trigger log of the event.

is this trigger log identical to your 6g72 code?

any help is appreciated

Please post a composite log, the "trigger log" is rarely useful.

Try backing down the boost; you're trying to get more fuel than the injectors can deliver.

The trigger log doesn't show anything of interest for your question. On a correctly running engine all bars will be the same height and looks exactly the same for every type of wheel.

The issue I could see in your specific data log is that the injector duty cycle went over 100% at 5700 RPM and ~200 kPa.

If it is breaking up at 6000 RPM free revving, please post a separate data log that captures that specific problem.

No sync-loss there, looks fine.

ok im back. still having the issue. im starting to wonder if there is slight differences between 6a13 and 6g72 that is causing the issue

first. car missfires in sequential mode and batch on idle

idles smooth in semi seq

but

missfires on acceleration. cant tune it out. i rewired injectors to fire 123456 (as configured by 6g72 and 6a1x and no change

now heres the kicker. if i switch to 6 squirts and batch fire and alternating car accelerates smoothly. but idles erratic and cuts out. cant tune idle out. tried disabling idle control, overrun accel enrichment. nothing helps. could there need to be a code tweak for the 6g72 code to work with the 6a13 engine? is suspect its how the injectors are fired or something
