Hi,
How have you managed to crimp the pins on an Ampseal connector? The OE tool is frightfully expensive; is there an alternative tool that works well enough?
Is soldering an option at all?
Thanks.

Re: Ampseal crimping
If they are interchangeable with Deutsch DTM series, I bought a crimper for Deutsch contacts from Ladd Industries that was only ridiculously expensive at $140, not insanely expensive like $1140. This was 10 years ago.

Not familiar with this line but they have limited positions. Good for inline connections. Perhaps they share contacts with the DT and other series. I'll take a look; thanks.9secz wrote:If they are interchangeable with Deutsch DTM series, I bought a crimper for Deutsch contacts from Ladd Industries that was only ridiculously expensive at $140, not insanely expensive like $1140. Re: Ampseal crimping
Crimp tools specifically for one connector can be insanely expensive. Mainly because they are made in such small quantities. But ones not specifically for one type may well be ok - assuming it is for the correct wire gauge. Usually a type which will do just one of the two crimps at once rather than both together.

I've wondered about the generic types. If the die shapes are the same then it should be fine.DaveEFI wrote:Crimp tools specifically for one connector can be insanely expensive. Yes - problem with some cheap tools is the dies ain't well made - the best ones will be machined from tool steel.

Re: Ampseal crimping
I got mine off eBay around £25-30 used them many times always crimp well, just make sure the right die shape to curl the 'legs' over, if it's the round pins the tools are crazy priced and I just solder them even at work.
