Fiat 1.8 16v lost sync

Post by vassili80 »

Hi.
My name is Luca from Italy.
This is my first Ms install, and I am having some problems....
Ms3 ms3x latest firmware 1.3.3a (also updated for the lost sync reason)
The engine is a Fiat 1.8 16 valve, like Barchetta ,Coupe or Punto hgt..
I have a continue lost sync,so the rpm bounce to 250-280 to 0 continuously..
I have choose the fiat 1.8 16v in wheel decoding, and even if in the composite log everything seem ok,the lost sync problem wont solve.
I ve tryed falling edge, rising edge, playng with pots also, but no luck.
The vr sensor is wired crrectly,as for Hitachi manual
The cam and crank pattern seems ok with the engine manual indication .
Maybe someone else have already used this style of crank and cam pattern?
The stock hitachi ecu work great.
Searched the forum for an indication,or a working fiat 1.8 project but no luck.
In the supported patterns page, seems it is untested...Am I wrong?
I also attached all the logs done.
Even a Logcrank and cam ,if may help.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks and sorry for my spaghetti english...

Also swapped the vr cables today
added the 10k resistor inline with sensor.
moved the cam sensor .
No luck.
The manual says : set mainboard as 5.2.14.1,but this section is for vr cam sensors.
And if I lay of the jp7 jumper ,the result is no cam at all.
So by now I use open collector cam hall sensor section.

All I can say is the cam crank log you posted looks to be exactly the same as the image shown in the manual page you posted. To me that says the MS is getting the right signals but they are being rejected by the decoder for some reason. I have no idea if anyone else has used this pattern before. I am sure you would have to wait for James's help on this one as he wrote the wheel decoders.
Find the Manuals up top under Quick links: Manuals. :RTFM:

Are the logs "post firmware" set to "log crank and cam" or the Fiat spark mode?

Hi.
Thanks for reply to all.
The logs post firmware are in Fiat spark mode.
I also have notice that in "log crank" I have a regular pattern, otherwise in fiat mode, the crank lost 1 missing tooth.
I have not my laptop with logs set to 4000 ms....Maybe are better than those....
Tomorrow I have to find injector deadtime, and the laptop is in garage.....
If I could post something helpful let me know

Yes,the pattern seems to be the same, this make me think that I am not (so) donkey.
I am pretty sure is not a pot-vr-cam problem.
I also tryed to give a fresh earth, positive from battery, and I am spinning the engine without spark plugs, coils and injectors also unplugged.
Only ms and sensors.
I think I am the only with this engine and ms,maybe because those engines are not worth tuning?
I have contacted James via pm,but maybe he is busy.
Even I would give priority to the problems that plague most people rather than one,but unfortunately this time the one is me....
No problem,I will wait.

OK, I found a change elsewhere in the code (April 2011) that had stopped the Fiat 1.8 16V mode from working.

I have it working on the bench now and will send a test code by email.

I cant post msq because it says boar attachment quota bla bla bla.

In any case I would thank again and again and again James for the job done.
Great support even for a single user.

Board quota should be sorted now. Great to hear that it is running.

Next, can you throw a timing light on it and make sure the timing is OK?

And finally started.
Cecked timing with strobe and was a little off, fixed with 5 degrees.

So,just for reference(if maybe someone will use this setup)

Fiat 1.8 16v mode
Falling edge
Going high
cop
ms3x cam and spark
Flip polarity : normal

And in my case trigger angle : 5 degrees.

And now go tune !!!

Thanks to all support received!

Please attach your MSQ.

The "trigger angle offset" ought to be zero, so I will adjust the code to include your 5 deg offset for the next release. Be sure to reset it to zero when you try that code!!
