output test mode, PWM, and boost solenoid

Post by shaodome »

This was preformed using the 1.4a10 firmware.

I'm posting this in order to get a better understanding....

Output test mode for the I/O allows you to select a frequency as well as the duty. Depending on the frequency and the corresponding duty cycle determines how hard the boost solenoid is "hitting." If the duty is due to low the solenoid isn't operating as I'm assuming their isn't enough current to actually cause it to move internally. If you physically touch it, you will feel a little pulse, but it's very faint. Same is true if you go too high in the duty cycle as I'm assuming it's fully "ON" at that point as well.

Can I use the test mode to determine a workable range of duty cycles for the solenoid?

Also, when changing the frequency in output test mode, it does not ask for a power cycle like it would if you were changing the idle PWM or boost control PWM. It appears that the frequency does indeed change though. Is that normal behavior James?
