Hi:
I am attempting to install a driveshaft speed sensor on my RWD race car. I have a Racepak split collar mounted onto the differential yoke. It is aluminum with two magnets embeddid into it.
What kind of sensor do I need to get?. I would prefer not to buy the Racepak sensor ($150). Is there a generic sensor I could use?
Thanks

Re: Hall sensor for driveshaft speed
You could certainly make one easily and cheaply if you have some fabrication skills. You get a suitable sensor IC and mount it in a tube or screw using epoxy like "JB Weld". We can provide details if you want to go that route. Lots of folks here have done that.

Re: Hall sensor for driveshaft speed
thanks.
I tried a mopar crank sensor, but it wont work. I need to find a sensor that will trigger from the magnets and not a tone wheel.

Re: Hall sensor for driveshaft speed
I remember msd selling a magnet based crank trigger for a gen 1 small block
Maybe they can sell just the sensor?

Do what Bill said if you want to be cheap. Likely around $1 for the bare hall effect sensor.
