Water Intercooler Pump Control

Post by quan3165 »

Hello all-

I want to control my intercooler pump based off of the difference between IAT (measured between IC and throttle valve) and "Ambient" Air Temp (measured inside the air filter) so the pump will continue to run when needed, even if not seeing boost or high throttle position. Maybe when IAT-AAT>30F and RPM>400.

Does anyone know of:
a) An existing feature in TS I can use to do this
b) A way to program this output using the temp delta

MS3 v3.57 & MS3X with the latest firmware and latest version of TS.

Many thanks.

I'm afraid this would currently need a code modification.

Ok, I'll find another way. Thanks for the reply.

This would also potentially help with hot restart heat soak allowing temperature based switching between IAT sensor and an external ambient sensor.

This circuit compares the IAT and AAT, then returns the IAT if they are within a certain range; if outside this range, it returns the AAT.

Edit - see revised schematic below.

Exactly what I was thinking. I also want my pump to keep running after spirited driving since it doesn't look like my setup is going to cool air as quickly as I'm heating it. No room for a bigger heat exchanger :(

Dontz- that circuit is great, thank you for putting it together. I'm going to add up the component cost and my time to see if that is more cost effective than a programmable microcontroller.

There was an error in the schematic; two of the op-amps and the comparator had their +/- inputs reversed. Revised schematic attached.
