MS3X PWM 3-wire toyota / bosche type IAC / TunerStudio

Post by dcg9381 »

Project is a Toyota 2RZ 2.4L 16 valve motor.
Using MS3 / MS3X (DIYAutotune).
I'm using the factory IAC valve, which I believe is a 3-wire (12V / Ground / Ground) "Bosch" type.
The valve has +12V, and the two "grounds" which move the motor are attached to VVT (pin 27) and idle valve (pin 9) of MS3X.

I have it wired up as shown in this diagram: http://www.2rzturbo.net/wp-content/uplo ... stions.jpg

First, Tunerstudio really one shows one option for "Output Port" - do I set that to Idle or VVT? Can someone explain how MS knows that the PWM control (ground trigger) is on those two particular pins? (I've attached current tunerstudio options, as have them in the above jpg)

First, I plan on start-up with this stuff disconnected and closed (so I don't complicate) things, but can someone walk me through duty cycle and how the 3-wire valves work in terms of configuration. It seems to be a "push/pull" kind of deal for opening the valve...

im using a bosch 3wire valve and to use 3 wire mode with that you set the 'out port' to one of the outputs your are using (idle) and the second output is set using the box '3 wire mode' (vvt).

I see it.. thanks.. That explains how to set the two "ground" wires active.

So how do the "modes" play? On start up does it assume prior position? What is it that actually gets it to shift between the two outputs?

i cant explain how it works but it does i assume it balances its self out so if 60% is applied to to one winding 40% dc is applied to the other winding. on start up the valve will use the cranking duty table and the duty cycle at that temp point will be used. and when the engine transitions to running it will either use the settings from warm up duty if set to open loop or will use the settings in closed loop if you are running closed loop idle.

But there is only one duty cycle setting, right? And essentially two sides of that motor...

yeah you just set one duty cycle, once the car is wired you can use the test mode to work out how much duty cycle opens the valve and closes it, for instance my bosch is fully closed @ about 20% and fully open @ about 80%.

UPDATE:

I had my wires hooked up backwards, for a 99' 2RZ MS3pro the settings need to be PWM/Idle out 1 to RSC and PWM out 2 to RSO.

I have valve frequency at 306Hz

Idle Valve Minimum Duty @ 30.2
Idle Valve Maximum Duty @ 100
Dashpot Adder @ 5.1
Closed-Loop Idle PID Gains @ 642
