Ignition coil for v8 distributor
Looking for an easy solution for an ignition coil on a ms3pro using a distributor. Looking at the ign-1a race coil from DIYAUTOTUNE but was wondering if it will hold up to that much spark rather than normal cop use. the documentation says it will run a dist application at reduced dwell ,but just looking for real world endorsement. The logic control is nice since the pro has no bip driver, but that isn't as much a problem. Worst case I can use a bosch module or even a gm module for easy part availability.

Re: Ignition coil for v8 distributor
Just use an HEI module and coil. That way you know you have compatible parts.
I guess a lot of it depends on what kind of rpm's you are planning to run.
I am assuming that this is the Pontiac V8 you were referring to in another post.

Yes but using a dual synch distributor that has a hall sensor so hei module would work in bypass mode but a Bosch module would look better aesthetically.

Re: Ignition coil for v8 distributor
It depends on the application. We are using a single IGN-1A on Jerry's Jeep rock crawler project with no problems, but this is a 318 Magnum that is not a particularly high winding motor, nor is it running boost. What sort of RPM will this engine be turning, and is it using forced induction?

No forced induction at least for now. I don't see this motor going over 5500 rpm.

Re: Ignition coil for v8 distributor
C'mon... you're a euro car guy!
Just grab a coil and driver from any random '80's or '90's euro car with a distributor. Audi 4K/5K/80/90/CQ/100/200, first-gen Saab 900 (except pre-1981) or 9000 1986-1990 are ones I know would work but I'm sure comparable VW/Volvo/BMW/Mercedes stuff would do the job too.
If you want a one-piece solution, grab one of the coils with attached driver that Audi used on the later KE-Jetronic (and Hitachi I think?) 5-cylinder cars:
Two bolts and four wires (including HT) and you're done. Only issue with those is you need the funny large-contact connector they use.
