Direct control CS144 Alternator

Post by dz455 »

Hello all, I have been having issues with my alternator and keeping stable voltage for several months now. I am currently using a GM CS144, but have been having issues keeping the volages stable for some reason. I would like to use the Alternator Control function to control the CS144 directly. You can force full output of the alternator by connecting 12v to one brush and ground to the other. This will verify that everything except the regulator works in the alternator. My plan is to modify the brush holder and connect INJ1 directly to the Neg Brush, and 12v Ign to the other brush. This way the MS3 should be able to control the alternator field the way a Chrysler does now. If I understand it correctly, I would use the "Closed Loop Field Control" option. Can anyone confirm that this should work and/or what issues I may be generating?
I attached the Currect MSQ, (not tuned completely), but runs good and I filled in the alternator control fields as I think needs to be.

Thanks, Dennis
