Sync loss during track racing

Post by rabid »

I was getting massive sync loss during a track day. It would seem to happen when the engine is really heating up. The lost sync reason is 2. The next day I drove normally and logged for 2300 seconds and there was no sync loss counts. Any ideas?

What sort of sensor are you using? Might it be overheating?

Are you able to get a tooth log of the issue?

It is a honda oem hall sensor from a d17a2. I'm using it with a 36-1 cam wheel. I made an adapter plate to mount it to a d16z6. My best guess is that the sensor is overheating but you would think those sensors would be better than that? I might try using a heat gun or hair drier and see if it has the problem. I would have to get into racing conditions to have this happen AND be tooth logging.

I took a heat gun to the sensor and after a few minutes the engine shut down. The logger showed the teeth no longer being detected. I measured the temp of the sensor with an ir gun and it was at 72C. Soon after it cooled a little and worked again. 72 is hot but should it be hot enough to cause problems? I will either need to replace the sensor if it is not normal or create a cooling system for it.

That's no good.. Sensors on an engine need to work up to 100. Use parts rated for 105C.

I replaced the sensor and heated it to 130c without problems.
