Erratic RPM signal, tuned R56 & R52 no result

Post by beast02 »

I am having a hard time getting a good RPM signal. It is a purchased 3.57 board, purchased wiring harness etc, all tests out fine with voltmeter and on jimstim.

I have tried turning the R56 pot and get to where I get a signal, but it isn't consistent, drops to 0 a lot and isn't a stable value (186, 278 etc). When I turn R52, nothing really takes. I've seen stuff on inline resistors for the RPM signal wire.......is this something I should do? I'm stumped. Log attached.

It is VR sensor, stock Ford set-up as built from factory (VR sensor and toothed wheel were on the engine already, it's a Ford Duratec Unit from a 2007 Ford Focus), 36-1 wheel.

All of the wiring is from the DIYautotune wiring harness, so all the wires are hooked up correct with shield etc.

Ok you shouldnt have any major issues, have you got jp1 over 1&2 and j1 on 3&4? Can you post a log with both r52 & r56 fully counter clock wise.7 or more turns

Disconnect the VR sensor from the harness and measure AC voltage output from it as you crank, let's make sure it is fundamentally OK. What is the resistance across the sensor pins with it disconnected?

I think I figured it out........more of a technique thing than anything with tuning the Pots! I had been making a turn, then checking, then turning, then checking.

Fixed it by actually cranking while turning the pot (think it was R52 that did it) and actually got the signal to stay consistent.

One thing left to fix/figure out though. The signal does drop down to after about 2 seconds of cranking but then picks it back up and holds steady.......did this for 2 logs so it seems to be consistent (logs attached).

Thanks,
