sync loss

Post by ali_bas7 »

PS: FIXED. Post #16 shows how. For future reference.

Hey guys.
The engine is a non-vvti (12 crank + 1 cam) 1JZ-GTE.

I've been trying to get it running right and it does idle at around 500 with no sync loss Although it sounds like it's running on 3-4 cylinders and it shakes a lot.

But as soon as I try to gas it it crackles and pops and loses sync.

Tried adjusting the VR pots for cam and crank but nothing changed.

Timing is set on cyl 1.

Attached are the MSQ, and logs. I had the timing set to fixed 10 but with variable timing it still does the exact same.

Ideas?

"The engine is a non-vvti (12 crank + 1 cam) 1JZ-GTE."

The MSQ is set for a 36-tooth crank wheel. Why?

It's set to 12. Looking at it right now.

That's the problem.
It's just 1 tooth and I used to get clean and even signals. Then all of a sudden it became like that.
Tried flipping the 2 wires and nothing changed.

There is also another that marks a different angle. I'll try that one and see how it goes.

In the mean time any input is appreciated.

yes. Went up and down on both until it started getting worse.

What is odd is that it worked perfectly before!

VR.

UPDATE: Running on all 6 now. I connected A-F like 1-6 but guess it can only fire A,B,C,D,E,F so that's fixed.
Got a clean idle. Still won't rev. Got a new comp log for you guys indicating the proper idle sync and sync loss at higher RPM.

Adjusted both Cam trimpots several turns. Going up made it worse, going down didn't affect it. Going to the other cam sensor didn't affect it either.

Any JZ guys on here?! Everybody uses the rear, which I'm using and is working fine.

UPDATE 2:

After a moment of getting mad at the car, I realized that I just have a dead spot at around 1500rpm. If you get some momentum, it will go past that and stay comfortably there. I went up to 5000rpm (no load) and it was alright.

I also get mapSample error as it does that.
Any ideas?

You have a problem getting a clean cam signal. What MS3 variant is this?

DIY Ms3x 3.0
And I'm using the stock shielded wire and the shield is grounded too.

The zx testpoint is at the min and is showing .58v. Can i add a resistor to lower the voltage some more?

I would see if there's a "sweet spot" on the VR trim pots before trying to add resistors.

Update:

FIXED. The problem was not the cam, contrary to what the comp logger was showing.

Reversing the polarity of the crank VR wires and changing the "ignition input capture" to "rising edge" fixed it fully.

Thanks for the help guys.
Time to tune!
