MTX-L and MS3 - some interesting readings.

Post by mike_tosen »

Well after researching the innovate mtx-l and the ms3, found that there were allots of post regarding the differences between the two.

So I decided to do a few tests on the bench.
I setup the mtx-l - in programming mode - and set the voltage output on error to different values(with the probe disconnected) - on the ms3 I put up a ego voltage gauge and the normal afr gauge.
After each program - the mtx outputted the said voltage - and was close measured with a multi meter.

Here is a table with the results with the programmed mtx voltage and then the voltage reported my ms3:

Code: Select all

MTX(v) MS3(v)
0 0.02
0.1 0.12
0.5 0.53
1 1.05
2 2.08
2.5 2.6
3 3.11
4 4.15
4.5 4.66
4.7 4.86
4.8 4.96
4.82 4.99
4.83 5
anything over 4.83 - just pegs the ms3 at 5v.

Took a multi meter reading at 4.82(mtx) voltage - multi meter reported 4.9 volt

I then proceeded to program the mtx to output 0-4.83 volt - as this will give the full sweep on the ms3
I setup the ms3 with a custom linear wide-band and entered the values as per mtx manual - 0v=7.35 and 5v=22.39

But there was some strange responses round the 0 volt range almost looks non linear.
Fiddled some more and found if I raise the mtx 0 point to 0.03 volt - the ms3 reads it as 0.1 volt - so programmed the mtx with a 0.03-4.83 output and then the ms3 with a 0.1-5v range

Great - everything matched through the sweep, EXCEPT 5v - with the mtx outputting 4.83v - the ms3 reads 5v - but displays only 22.3 and not 22.4, even if I raise the mtx voltage to 5v - then the ms3 gets over 5v and the reading is still only 22.3, I even tried to set the 22.4 point to 4.95volt on ms3 - nothing.
If I change the 5v point to 22.5 - then 5v displays 22.4, but now the rest of the curve is off again :-(

Anybody else notice anything like this ?

Seems like the max point in ms3 on the custom wide-band setup - will only display the max value, if the voltage exceeds it ? not exactly matches it ?

I do not have a jimstimm, so can somebody with one please verify this, just setup a custom wide-band - say with 0.1v = 7.4 and 5v = 22.4, then feed it 5v and see what the MS3 reports ?

Thanks
Mike

I also have an MTX-L and need to reprogram the range so I'm hoping to figure out the serial connection sometime this week, maybe I'll play around with it a bit to see what I see.

Did some more work on this.

Seems that at lower voltages - there is some non linear thing happening ???

So what I did was to setup the MTX like this.
0.03 volt = 7.4
4.83 volt = 22.4

On the MS3 the linear wideband setting I ended up with is :
0.91 volt = 10
5 volt = 22.5

setup like this - at the rich side of the scale - below 10 - it seems to be out 0.1 afr, but not planning to spend anytime there :D

From 10 all the way to 22.4 the mtx and the ms3 matched each other exactly :yeah!:

Not sure all the mtx and ms3 will need the same settings - you will have to check, but welcome to try these settings and see if you are closer.

I had exactly the same issue with my MTX-L and MS2 - I ended up doing exactly what you did and fiddle with the linear WB settings until the gauge and TS matched.

I sold the MTX-L a while back and was planning to use an AEM or 14point7 controller on my next installation

I had the same with my MTX-L and MS3...I had even 3 different values, the MTX-L gauge, the Logworks software, and the MS3. I reprogrammed the MTX-L and they all were in sync, unfortunately I don't remember the exact details anymore. I wasn't a problem in my opinion.

Here's what I got on the first try:

Code: Select all

MTX(v) MS3(v)
0 0.01
0.1 0.11
0.5 0.52
1 1.02
2 2.04
2.5 2.55
3 3.05
4 4.07
4.5 4.57
4.7 4.78
4.8 4.88
4.82 4.90
4.90 4.98
4.92 5.00
I ended up with 0V=10, 5V=20.1 in TunerStudio to get the physical gauge to match TS's gauge.

I am running a MTX-L as well using the LSU 4.2 sensor. I also noticed a discrepancy in what the MTX-L was reading versus TS. My current sensor is dead from running too rich and I will have a replacement Monday. I will check and see how it reads and will post my findings.

Hi all, where do I find the settings for this in TS. I would like the MTX-L and TS to match also.

Tools > Calibrate AFR Table

You may need to "Un/Lock Calibrations" first.
