MS3-Pro: No RPM while cranking - Engine State = 0 ???
Car was running fine until my starter failed. I replaced the starter and engine will not start now.
Standard Ford TFI dizzy.
- Battery is 12.56V. While cranking it drops to 10.3v
- old coil had 0.4 ohms, which I understand to be acceptable. I have not tested the new one.
- with timing light on #1 plug wire, I'm not getting any spark when attempting to start engine.
- With ignition on, there is power to the coil
- TS not recognizing RPM while cranking
- Engine State is "0" while cranking, when it should be "3"
- I've not touched the wiring (that I'm aware of). I will double check PIP/SPOUT connections.
Sure would appreciate suggestions on how to diagnose this issue.

When I compare the datalog from yesterday to a successful start on April 9th, they look nothing alike. MAP, PW, etc, etc are vastly different.

Re: old and new coil - still no spark to #1
Does the coil still have power when cranking? Some 12v return systems come from the the starter solenoid.
Find the Manuals up top under Quick links: Manuals.

There was power with the ignition on- I will check that ignition exists with cranking in the morning

Re: old and new coil - still no spark to #1
Looking at your logs, you have no tach signal (RPM) when cranking on the failed one. Without that, MS won't spark or inject.

Work on the tach-in signals using the tooth logger and composite logger.

Re: MS3-Pro: No RPM while cranking - Engine State = 0 ???
When I enable the "Output Test Mode - Spk/Inj" tool, specify "coil testing mode" = one, the coil does provide spark as confirmed with a timing light on the coil wire.
If I disconnect the SPOUT wire at the MS3, the coil does not spark in the same mode.
This is a Ford TFI distributor system .

Confirm the TFI distributor has power while cranking and the sensor is putting out a good signal.

Re: MS3-Pro: No RPM while cranking - Engine State = 0 ???
There is voltage at the coil with ignition on -AND- while cranking.
I've captured datalog and Composite logger files (see attached)

Re: MS3-Pro: No RPM while cranking - Engine State = 0 ???
There's no tach signal coming into the MS3-Pro, hence no RPM.

Re: MS3-Pro: No RPM while cranking - Engine State = 0 ???
Everything working fine prior to starter change-- afterwards, I've never had an RPM signal.
MS3 on it's own isolated circuit/relay, ground to engine
No wire changes. SPOUT and PIP wire attached properly and still intact.
What could cause this issue or better yet, What should I be looking at next ??
Just my luck, going away on vacation and have this festering on my mind.
I appreciate all the feedback just the same.

No RPM while cranking - (Root cause identified)
I had a spare dizzy and was going to do a simple replace. Old dizzy was being stubborn coming out, so I cranked the motor only to learn that the dizzy was not moving.
Pulled the valve covers and valvetrain is operational = (timing chain intact)
Had a buddy help me wrestle dizzy out and confirmed that gear pin sheared.
I suppose the good news is that I go on vacation knowing it's not the ECU and on a positive note, I learned a few more new things with this experience.
My thanks to those who weighed in.
