I'm in the process of getting ready to make the switch to MS3X.
In the interest of limiting the trouble shooting and tuning time before my next Mile event in October, can I set up the 3X to control spark only? If so, should I leave the temperature sensors connected to the OEM ECU?
Has anyone got any experience with this setup?
Would I be wasting my time trying to go to spark only?
96 383 LT4 with hot cam and switching to LS1 Coil near Plug.
Thanks, in advance

Re: MS3X Spark control only
Spark-only will work fine. You won't have some of the more sophisticated features, like cold-advance, available with the MAT and CLT not connected, but the engine can run quite well. I would put a dummy resistor across those inputs, as well as TPS, just so the ADC inputs aren't floating around; but that probably isn't really necessary. Note that you will need to connect a MAP sensor to have any "vacuum advance" capability.

Thanks!!!!
Re: MS3X Spark control only
Is the stock ECU still running the injectors? Sounds like a good stepping stone if you want to get the timing right.
But you will need input from MAP or MAF so you can adjust the timing.
It does let you tune some fun stuff like spark cut.

Re: MS3X Spark control only
Spark cut or retard will be available and very useful for rev-limiting, of course, but just be wary. I have had my engine blow right past the limit when not using fuel-cut. Maybe I was only using spark retard at the time, not cut, or maybe it was "dieseling". I don't remember... just be wary.
