Thanks, thats excellent information, I may set it up for a fan or something in the future.

While we are on the subject of the LED's, how exactly are they meant to operate?

On mine D14 comes on at power up and glows until injection begins (when RPM syncs), then it flashes.
(The INJ leds on the stim give a quick blip during power up, then flash once synced)
Is that normal?
One of the other ones lights once synced, during warm up,
The other lights during accel.

Id I'm reading the earlier posts correctly, you have configured D14 as a spark output and perhaps have it set to "Going Low" ? This would cause it to be lit at power up and then briefly flash off for each spark.

Thanks for the reply,
I connected the MS3 to my stim last night and set it for ms3x spark, going high, so it is no longer set on 'LEDs' but the circuit is still on the board.
No change to d14 being lit.
So can I assume it isnt meant to be?

The funny thing is, once i give it some rpm (stim) the light isnt on anymore even with the rpm off, until restart.

Should I be concerned? I dont want my injectors held open at power on or something...

Tonight I did a data log of powering on, giving the MS3 some rpm, and some other inputs for a while, then shut it down. (on the stim)
I tried to attach it and my msq but I get this message :"Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

Some info that may help:

1. When I power on the MS3 I notice "pulse width 1" does a blip, around 2ms, is that a normal priming pulse or something?
2. If I assign d14 to fan output it doesn't 'play up' - it doesn't come on at power up and only turns on when the clt hits the set parameters.
3. If I unassign d14 as fan, it 'plays up' again.
4. If I unplug the stim and power the stim on by itself, INJ1 and INJ2 don't blip at power up.
5. If I change main fuel outputs to "ms3x fuel" D14 doesn't 'play up' and INJ1 and INJ2 on the stim don't blip at power up. if I change it back to "std fuel" it does again.
6. I have tried a reflash and even on a new tune it does the same thing as the current tune.

I'll keep trying to upload the data log and msq

I just took the unit out of the case and did an inspection, I couldn't find any solder bridges, the r26->igbtin link measures 330 and the transistor in q16 is a Bosch unit & has the correct part number.

Something I did notice is that when on the stim, with fuel output set to 'std fuel', once I give the MS some rpm the INJ indicators on the stim seem to flash opposite to D14 on the MS3, as in D14 is off when Stim INJ1&2 are on.

Something else I noticed which may or may not be related is that on 'my' tune the accel LED (d16 is it?) doesnt light when I blip the tps pot on the stim but on a blank tune (after reflash) it does.

Thankyou for reading my posts, I'm sorry for all the questions and info, Its my first Megasquirt so I have no idea what is 'normal' or not and I figure the more information I can provide about what the unit does the easier it will be to get a solution.

I seem to be able to upload attachments now, here is my .msl and .msq:
d14 test on stim.msq
D14 test on stim.msl

Your tune is set to "MS3X Spark" so it isn't using D14 as the spark output.

If you DO want to use D14 as the spark output (sounds like you do) then you need to set "Spark hardware in use" to "LEDs spark"

Thankyou for looking at my post, yes I set spark output to ms3x spark once I had clarification about the factory 'power transistor' needing a logic level output.

What I am trying to determine now is the 'strange' condition of D14.

Re: Help with Ignition Coil output and LED (D14)operation pl

Well good news - I wired Ignition out to MS3X Spark A and I have spark in coil test mode.

I also read quite a fair way ahead in the 'setting up 1.4' manual and found this:

"3.4.7.1 Priming pulse
This curve allows you to specify an initial pulse, in milliseconds, that is fired on the first turn of the key. You
can set the pulse width as a function of coolant temperature."

So I guess the blip on the 'Pulse width 1' gauge on startup is normal!

Thankyou very much for the help provided above, I got the car fired up today - first try, no throttle tickling required!
now for tuning...
