do any flex fuel sensors read upto e98
i have done a bit of digging but almost all i find is a frequency for e85- gas, and a frequency for contaminated fuel. e98 can be bought in bulk for $1.00 a gallon here.

We can only dream of prices like that. Presently it works out to around $5.37/USgal for 95 UK Octane.

Re: do any flex fuel sensors read upto e98
There is a place a few hours from me that will sell e98 but it has to be at least 100gals....so I have never purchased it. I was planning on cutting it back to e80-e85 with motorsport 109. The net octance would be in the 112 range for about the price of 93 octane (at least it was about that back when gas was $4/gal). IDK what it would cost nowadays.
Anyway, you would want it to be at the most e85..the fuel pump needs that little bit of petrol to help lubricate itself.

My dyno shop buys it in bulk at a place in Portland, Oregon
Is that Motorsport 109 a leaded race fuel?

a friend of mine i did a turbo coyote install for uses e98 he gets it by the barrel 2 55gal drums cost him $120 from a distributor. its actually pure alcohol but they have to add 1 gallon of gas to the barrel before they fill it. the procedure is a pain to go through so he wants to save the pure stuff for racing and fill up with whatever when he needs to.

The was the highest UNLEADED gas I could find at time I had concocted the idea....so your o2 sensors will be safe.nathaninwa wrote:My dyno shop buys it in bulk at a place in Portland, Oregon

I was going to mention that the tetraethyl stuff in the fuel doesn't mix well with the ethanol and actually lowers effective octane

Re: do any flex fuel sensors read upto e98
The GM and Ford sensors both read to 100%. Some are at 150Hz (All GM and most Ford AFAIK) and some are at 125Hz (Some Ford) though so you need to know what frequency range yours uses. Both are in error mode under 50Hz if I recall correctly. So figure 50-150Hz (or 50-125Hz) for 0-100%.
The Continental GM units are inexpensive and Russel makes a screw-closed adapter fitting to -6AN line (the internal passage of the sensor is also 3/8" so no restriction on a -6 line). I run mine right off the Driver's side fuel rail before the regulator. They also report fuel temperature as duty cycle.

I have one of the newer gm units, it works great. The adaptor fittings make for a super clean install. I run mine in the return line after the regulator. Readings are super stable, at least until the car starts to run out of gas, and can't maintain fuel pressure consistently.
