MS3X V3.57 dual vr board install pics?

Post by Blue 12 »

Does anyone have any pics, or can you provide idiot proof instructions on how to install the JB Performance dual VR board? (internal)

Im thinking that I just need to do the crank input and let the expander card handle the cam?

thank you

I don't have a 3.57 board nor pictures to help you so it will have to be written instructions. Hopefully that is clear enough.

Assuming you have a 5V version, power the dual VR board by connecting 5V and ground from the 3.57 board. You will need to connect JP1 pin 2 on the 3.57 board to VR1+ on the dual VR board. You will also need to connect OUT1 on the dual VR board to J1 on the 3.57 board; use pin 2, 4 or 6 (they are connected together so anyone will work). Finally you will need to use one spare connector pin either on the DB37 or the DB15 and connect it to VR1-.

Your external wiring will need to connect the crank VR sensor to the standard DB37 tach in pin (pin 24) for one sensor wire (VR+) and the other sensor wire will connect to the spare connector pin you chose above (VR-). Make sure the VR sensor is not connected to anything else other than these 2 pins (not connected to ground). If you use a shielded cable for the sensor, connect the shield to ground at one end only (either at the sensor end or at the MS end).

I see you wrote that as I was typing, thank you!

Also, while Im in here, is it worth shielding the outputs of the bip 373s that are going to my spare outputs? (1,2 and 4) I would like to bring the vr- signal in on spr 3 as its available.

As your question suggests, high current ignition signals can interfere with the tach signal so some distance and/or shielding would be a good idea. Using a shielded cable for VR+ and VR- would probably be the best option. And since the 2 DB37 pins (24 and 5) are next to each other, keeping the shield intact as close as possible to the connector would be good.

i have shielded wire from the vr sensor to the case, im just thinking that i have 3 high current drivers inside the case beside where i want to bring in the vr signals (and 1 in the usual location)

I see what you mean. What you could do is route the VR- wire on the bottom of the board and bring it over to the top through one of the holes in the board. That way, the board itself acts as a shield with only the soldering pad being close.

I was already considering that and wondering if it would do anything, thank you for suggesting it and confirming my thoughts . Im not using the iac pins for anything so used 1a beside the other vr wire tied in from the bottom.

im going to try the expander card for the cam input again, and if its not up to the task ill wire it to the other half of your board.
