I dont have any more of the 24-1 wheels, i had one and cut it up to make the 12-1
i am open to knowing why the zx14 wheel is better. i do like learning. however it doesnt fit what i have.

i tried the main board crank input circuit today and nothing registered, so i put it back on the jb perf board and got very limited inputs. it fired up once, and seemed ok, then when i shut it off it would not restart. barley showing any blips during cranking

im at the point where i want to scrap the idea of using vr sensors and maybe try a hall

as a test i did the required main board adjustments (jumpers and resistor) and held a hall sensor up to the crank wheel while my gf hit the starter button(cois and inj unplugged). it displayed rpm fine. im going to build a bracket to hold a hall sensor in here and maybe this struggle will end.

usually vr sensors are better for high rpm. how about some logs? can you scope the input an the output of the vr board?

how would a hall sensor do with an 8 tooth wheel at 13000 rpm?

no i cant scope anything

It depends on the sensor. Most of the Gear Tooth Sensor datasheets I've seen have max pulse rate numbers in the 15-20 kHz region, while your example is a mere (13,000 / 60 x 8 = ) 1.7 kHz.

As for the comment of VR sensors being better for high revs, I've never seen a Hall sensor require a shunt or series resistor to eliminate sync loss at moderate (5k+) rpms. I *have* seen a Hall sensor provide a cleaner, more consistent signal with a 12v pull-up vs 5v.

I have turned my 36-1 tooth wheel more than 8000 rpm using a hall sensor and never had sync issues or a bad signal. always a clean signal using the hall sensor. DIY has spun the 36-1 tooth wheels upwards of 12000 rpm with clean signal... so the hall sensor might be better for your install.

I have had the best of success with an 8-1 wheel and the original DIY silver hall sensor. The red one is a little more temperamental. Cam sensors add sync loss problems at high RPM and it makes no difference on power if waste spark or sequential. Also makes no more power if using more crank teeth. Spark plugs and wires also cause sync loss at high RPM. Too fat or too lean also causes sync loss at high RPM due to secondary miss-fire. My rotor is a Chevrolet distributor rotor with a tooth cut off. Small in diameter and wide helps with all the crank flex and movement. Sensor at 3 or 9 o clock also helps. Have had equal success with an MSD mag sensor (big) and a early Ford diesel 7.3 VR 2 wire short mag sensor. 600hp 1.4L and 6.60@210mph doesn't lie !
