Quad Spark boxes with Ford 4.6/5.4 coils.

Post by MalcolmV8 »

Has anyone used the quad spark boxes on the Ford 4.6/5.4 mod motor coils? I was recently told they're to weak and anything beyond 1 ms dwell causes them to go into current limiting mode. I hope not as I spent a lot of time working out some custom wiring and plug & play harnesses I made so the MS3-Pro can piggy back with my stock ECU. It'll be a while before my car's ready to test.
Anyone have experience or feed back here?

No real experience with them but I am seeing 0.5ohm primary and 1.5mH for the accel or professional products coils from summit. If that is correct then they will hit 7A in 1.03mS @ 12v. So I would not go pushing much past 1mS.
Find the Manuals up top under Quick links: Manuals. :RTFM:

Those numbers look as if somebody mistakenly attempted to fit these motors with coils designed for a motorcycle CDI. A coil with an inductance that low is not able to store very much energy when used with an inductive coil driver.
