Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
Thanks in advance am really green doing this stuff so all help is greatly appreciated.
I have no lights on my stim or RPM and mat all other gages (CLT, TPS, O2 ) seem to be working fine what do you think is wrong?
do I need to hookup those 330 ohm resistors they ask for on the Ms2 board.
I have jumper on ( IGN to IGBTOUT ) (TSEL to VROUT ) ( TACHSELECT to VRIN ).
I installed the PWM Idle Valve Modifications also this is all I have done so far.
I am I missing anything like I said I am out of my comfort zone!
Thanks
Terry

I forgot to tell you what motor.
It's a a 4.6 dohc going in a older car I had the original computer running it before.
Now I want to get rid for all the extra wiring that goes with setup.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
Post the MSQ and an MSL taken while trying to get an rpm using the stim. Is this a JimStim or the older stim? A picture of the stim may help, there may be jumpers and switch settings that can be quickly checked visually
Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
well now wont connect to tuner studio power light comes on if the stim is unplugged when pluged in wont connect and light is flashing.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
You should be able to post the MSQ even if the MS won't connect to TS; the MSQ should already be on the TS computer. Your JimStim DIP switches are set for "dizzy/EDIS" input. Is that what is set in the MSQ?

It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like there may be solder bridges on the legs of the small transistors.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
MSQ
Had it running on tunerstudio with Stim.
Now cant get tunerstudio to work.
Light on Stim started flashing.
stops flashing when Daughter card is not hooked up.
Is there a test i can do to see if transistors are bridged. I tried to clean them up with desolder wick.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
Check the 5V, both with-and-without the daughter installed.
Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
I did 5 volt with out card at all pins that it calls for.
voltage with card is all over and not constant.
Also when card is disconnected i get 2 of the three lights on.
with it hooked up all lights are off on the MS3 board.

"...with it hooked up all lights are off on the MS3 board."
I'm confused: I don't know of any lights on the MS3 board. Do you mean lights on the JimStim?
Do I understand correctly, the 5V is OK when the MS3 is not installed, but varies a lot when the MS3 is installed? Just what range of voltages are you seeing for the 5V when the MS3 is installed?
Is the MS3X disconnected during all this? If not, try with it out of there.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
The lights i am referring to are the LEDS coming out of the case from the MS3 board.
Volt as per power test from the Manual is 5.05 volts with out MS3X Daughter card hooked up which is good i believe.
Volts Top of daughter card when installed is .05. This is taken of the pin that protrude through the top of the MS3X.
News flash the power light on the J-stim is no longer flashing. It starts out bright and goes dimmer in a few seconds but is still on.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
We need to "regroup" here.
First, let's clarify what those three boards are called. The largest board, with the DB37 and DB9 connectors and those three LEDs is the mainboard. In your case, it is the V3.0 version, the through-hole one. The "MS3" is the daughter board that plugs into the mainboard at the 40-pin socket. The MS3 has no LEDs and no DB connectors, it is a white/gray color as opposed to the blue/green of the others. The "MS3X" has one DB37 connector, and also connects to the MS3 (daughter) via two ribbon-type cables. I don't mean to be picky, but it can get real confusing when trying to troubleshoot things. If you say "I have an MS3X" that is fine in general for looking at the tune, we assume you have the mainboard and MS3 and MS3X boards. However, for digging into the circuits being specific about the board is necessary.
Disconnect the MS3X for now, get it completely out of the picture. Next, check the 5V at either the labelled pad in the "proto" area, or at the mainboard DB37 pin 26. Yes, the 5V could be checked on the top side of the MS3, but if you slip and the meter probe shorts something it could be a problem.
The fact that any mainboard LEDs are lit, with the MS3 not installed, indicates to me that you do have some shorts on the mainboard, probably at those small transistors, as already mentioned.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
I have been talking to DIY autotune as well he said to do the same test pretty much.
I found 5 volts on the top of the proto labelled Ground and 5 V.But not anywhere else on the proto area.
Matt at Diy think my MS3 is shorted and i will send it to him to see whats up.
Now what about those painful little transistors! is there a way to test them. I tried using desolder and i thought i had them cleaned up good. should i pull them out and get new ones.
Thanks for straightening me out on the boards.

Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
With the transistors mounted close to the PCB it is tough to inspect for shorts under them, on the "component side" of the PCM. Yes, you may have to pull them out. The ones where the LEDs are "lit" with no MS3 installed clearly have a problem. Many of us install those type transistors standing up off the board 1/8" or so, just so we can inspect and clean under them; plus it may allow a bit more air around them for cooling. Really clear pictures of the board, especially the "solder side", may let us do enough visual inspection that you don't have to worry about every solder joint.
Re: Megasquirt 3 - MS3xapander -
I am going to get some more transistors today and I hope to get you a picture to look at so you might able to pick out my problem.
