Another cam signal fault

Post by rickb794 »

MS3 on a v3.0 MS3X in LS1 mode

Jim Stim v2.0 set switches 3 & 6, Had to pull up 12v on VR, cam signal in on MS3X #32

I get a ready light in TS and the fuel pump will stay on (fuel pump will shut off if I turn RPM to 0)

But no sync. No RPM in TS, obviously.

Adjusting R11 on the MS3X and cannot get 2.5v on Pad1

Maxes out at 1.67v What am I doing wrong?

Had to remove cam input to get a steady read.

Im thinking Q1 has shat itself and I am seeing a back feed from the output of U7?

Which version of the JimStim firmware do you have? As mentioned on the JimStim web page, the latest firmware version (2.0.4) has an updated version of the LS1 pattern. If you have an earlier version, the pattern may not sync with the cam signal when using the latest MS3 firmware version.

Surplus Gizmo's to the rescue TTL232R 3V3 in stock!

I don't see 2.0.4 firmware, so I assume load the wheels_default.jsw file to update?

Or the wheels_default_ls1.zip ?

I thought further about this issue and although the wheel pattern may be a problem,

That does not explain my inability to get 2.5v at Pad1 of the MS3X

You need to load wheels_default.jsw as defined briefly here: http://www.jbperf.com/JimStim/JimStim_v ... el_upgrade. And make sure to load the latest version of the pattern file because I just updated it with the correct v2.0.4 content.

Excellent!

Any thoughts as to why the problem setting up the MS3X?

Firmware will not get me 2.5v at Pad1.

Updated wheel pattern on stim

NOTE:
Save the three files .exe and .jsw, Re-name wheel_converter.c to wheel_converter.jsr

wheel_converter.exe on XP did not like com27, had to reassign FTDI to com2

Now I can move on to fixing the MS3X, symptoms unchanged.

I'm embarrassed, turned off stim switches 4 & 5 and I have RPM now.

I still question the R11 setting at full clockwise to only get 1.67v at Pad1

Manual calls for a setting of 2.5v on Pad1 (ZC Testpoint).
