RPM/Sync issue with MS3/3x configuration

Post by Strygaldwir »

Issue:

I am not seeing Sync or RPM when I monitoring the boards with Tuner Studio.
Receiving an Error Code 18 on the SD card when attempting to use insert and initialize or otherwise use SD logging.

Hardware:

  MegaSquirt v3.0 MB - Flashed to MS3 1.5.0 release 20170116 19:37GMC (c) JSM/KC
  MegaSuirt MS3 V0.1 Daughter board
  MS3-Expansion Rev 1.1 2009 2010

JimStim v1.5 2009 Simulator board v2.0.4 cpu chip
JimstimX v0.2 2010 expansion simulator board
  Power supplies 1) 9 volt 450 MA  2) 12.6 Volt 1 amp

Panasonic CF-30 Tough book RS232 direct 9 pin port

Software:

TunerStudio MS Lite! v3.0.22 (Utilized beta version, same results)
  Windows 7 Professional SP1 32 bit

Observations:

Tried a variety of configurations under tooth wheel 60-2 and 36-1 none showed sync or RPM.  Tried Fuel only, RPM is then displayed, no sync error displayed.

Have tried adjusting R52 and R56 per instructions turned both counter clockwise more that 12 turns, turn R56 6 turns, 7 turn (2.5 volt measurement) and repeatedly until lost of wheel signal. Voltage fluctuations are about .5 volts. I have seen as low as 9 volts on battery scales with one supply, Switched and I am now showing 11 volts. No change in behavior with the shift to a different power supply

Have tried both Hall and VR positions on Jimstim board.  Have mostly utilized 12volt pull up for both primary and secondary tach signals.  Have tried 5 volt pull up for tach signals. Doc suggest 12 volts is appropriate, so have left the jumper on 12 volts.

Have run through testing of the Jimstim boards, they appear to be working per diagnostic routine. On composite and tooth logs I am showing consistent tooth signals just no Spike for the missing tooth.  When testing in fuel only mode, all designated injectors are showing to be firing, fuel pump is energized.

Removed 3x board for testing, made no difference in RPM issue.  Removed and reseated the expansion card, it made no difference in SD RPM Sync.

The Mega squirt has not been placed on a vehicle yet as this was just an attempt to replicate the configuration and assure it would work prior to connection.  DIY folks are suggesting that it is possibly a JimSTIM issue. That the JimStim is not sending out the SYNC pulse.

Attachments:

MSQ,MSL and CSV files for logs while going through various RPM and other switch test.

I tried using the SD card logging to see if that would give me any difference, the fact that I am unable to access the SD cards makes me suspicious of the MS 3 daughter board.  Any suggestions on how best to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Further info on the RPM sync issue. I have selected a variety of different DIP switch configurations on the JimStim board. Each time I have selected a configuration, I have turned the Stim/MS board off and back on. I have kept the Tooth logger up. I have observed no change in the frequency or amplitude in the tooth logger over the 6 or so different configurations I have seen. I would have expected a different pattern here if different tooth patterns were indeed being produced.

Post a picture of the JimStim, so we can check the jumpers and switch settings.

Posting some shots of the JimStim.

Pictures were too large. Crop to reduce size.

SDcard error 18 means there's something strangely wrong with your card. Try another card.

(Or reformat that card using the official SDcard reformat tool - I forget where you can download that from.)

All the jumpers go up to the JimStimX board. The yellow wire is a 5v source for the LEDs for the JimStimX, the Red wire is for a secondary CAM signal that is fed to the 3X card. There is also a black ground wire that goes from the JimStim to JimStimX

Swapped the 32GB SD card for an 8GB SD card. That has resolved the SD Error Code 18 issue.

Still no progress on the RPM Sync issue.
