Accelerometer users, please chime in
Im looking to add a single or dual axis accelerometer in my drag application and wanted to know how other people are making out with using this feature.
Im looking at this unit
https://www.dimensionengineering.com/products/de-accm6g
The manuals say that it reads +/-1g, which is a little confusing. Not sure if that means it will only read in 1g increments
So please chime in with your experience, Accelerometers that your using, things new Accelerometer users should look for or know about, ect.
Thanks

Re: Accelerometer users, please chime in
It means it can read up to +1g and down to -1g. Not enough.

The link shows it as a +/-6g sensor. The confusion might come from images showing the sensor reading +/-1g depending on orientation; this is the sensor simply reading earth's gravity.
That seems to be an acceptable unit if somewhat a bit pricey.

I was referring to the MS manuals. Sorry.
I bought the 2g sensor, basically on a guess and some reading about bikes barely pulling 1g

A triple-axis is a better choice, in my opinion, because you will almost certainly not have a perfectly aligned board. Even if you do manage to have it perfectly horizontal and aligned in a static situation, as soon as you start moving that will be gone. With 3-axis, you can do some computations to get the actual acceleration because you know that gravity won't change (unless you jump in which case you could see 0g in the z-axis).
And the manual only refers to calibration which is done using gravity and moving the sensor so that each axis is exactly vertical (up and down) giving you a +/-1g reference.

Re: Accelerometer users, please chime in
Good input. I was kind of hoping that's what the 2 axis would do for me. But it's 22$, so I won't be too upset if it doesn't work well
Does 2g seem like enough for a 3600lb car on a 26inch slick around 1000whp? I read that some pro mods see about 3 and are cutting sub 1.0 60fts
I'd be estatic if I could get a 1.3, but prolly be around 1.5

I use accelerometers all the time with my Squirts. 2 gees will handle most cars well into the 8s. I use a 3.5 v voltage regulator and a 3 axis piece designed for the Arduino world. About $10-15 for everything. This is an 8.5 sec car.

On a 1.8 60ft my accelerometer recorded a peak of 11.7 ms-1 i.e. 1.2g.

Interesting. I bought the 3 axis 3D accelerometer from Dimension and am putting it on a TinyIOx. I didn't want the mounting hassles of a 2 axis, but I imagine it could be made to work for those inclined.
