Porsche 911 ignition setting

Post by Sigurd »

What am I doing wrong?

I have a 1982 3.2 SS Porsche 911 engine with PMO ITB, Clewett Engineering crank trigger, 60-2 and a JB Racing twin spark distributor.

When setting the timing using Tuner Studio MS to 30 degrees advance with a strobe light, using 30 degrees fixed timing setting; the tooth #1 angle has to be set to 170 degrees before tdc. However the timing sensor is at approx. 60 degrees before tds. The tdc mark on the crank wheel is spot on tdc for cylinder 1.

Suggestions?

Are you sure that the distributor rotor is pointing to #1 cylinder spark plug wires when the engine is coming up on TDC for cylinder #1 compression stroke?
