Sanity check: Chaining programmable on/off to fan control

Post by Mr Bombjoy »

After reading a few related threads I think I've got it, but just to be sure:

I have twin cooling fans and would like to have them both controlled using the Fan Control option. I'd like the second fan to be on a delayed start to limit inrush current from bogging during idle. Looks like I can have the programmable on/off observe the condition of the fan control port and act accordingly...

Fan control:
Fan control on: ON
Output Pin: FIDLE

Programmable On/Off Outputs 1:
PP5 - Nitrous 2:
Output Channel portt = 128, 0 (FIDLE port per TS manual)
AND
Seconds > 3

The both outputs will trigger separate fan relays.

Based on my understanding, PP5 should should now be active when FIDLE is active, but with a 3 second delay. Is it just that easy?

Sadly Seconds is how long the MS has been running and is not related to whether Nitrous2 is high or low.

Or maybe use the second condition with a slightly higher temperature.

I though about it but I plan to use the AC compressor control features, too.

A better solution is to wire your fans in a series/parallel configuration using 3 Bosch relays.
This way, both fans run at low speed when in series and high speed in parallel.

I'll try to attach a schamatic.

If it is imperative to use a timed function, then the Nitrous menu has an unused timer on it when engaging Nitrous stage2 after stage1. To use it, I guess you'd need to engage Nitrous1 via a loop condition to its input pin, taking care not to alter timing or fuel and then use the output of Nitrous2, subject to the timing delay you wanted, to employ the Nitrous2 output to switch your second fan, again without altering timing or fuel.

Someone cleverer than me can tell you how to set that up.

kind regards
Marek
