loosing connection to lap top

Post by MegaSlant6 »

hello
wanting to use a cheap Toshiba Satellite 2 in 1 as a data collection and auxilary gauge bank in a drag only car running a MS3 Pro.

the system seems to work ok in the garage, however at the track it looses the connection between the MS3 and the lap top more often than not.

I am using the cable that is part of the MS3 harness and has a serial port on its end. As the Toshiba does not have a serial port, I have a CableMax serial port to USB adapter that plugs into the Toshiba.

The Toshiba is securely mounted on a car laptop pedestal and I have the CableMax adapter firmly held in place with velcro pads.

any ideas on how to make the connection more stable,

thanks

You have to run a input to a momentary button. Im my case i used a didgital switched in and i ran it to my defrost button in my mustang. I then used a spare injector output and wired it to a small light and set it up to come on when datalogging is active.
