VQ35DE Question - CAM Input

Post by supakat »

Good evening,

Been doing research and just need to verify the cam signal. I know the crank signal will go into pin 24 on the main harness. And I know that the CAM sensor will go into the MS3X harness on pin 32. Do I wire both CAM signals from both banks into MS3X on pin 32 or do I put one in pin 32 and the other in another input pin like 28 or 29 that I will not use and change settings in TS to look for a cam signal?

Thanks in advance.

You only need one cam if not running VVT. VVT requires both cam sensors. Available extra pins are PT4, JS10 (pin 36 on the main board), and Data Log In.

I wish you luck on this! I had it on mine and it never worked 100% right. Have had no problem with many other cars I have tuned with MS3.

Wondering if you got this VQ35 running with MS3??

I am currently trying to do the same, but my timing is way off.

Thanks.

Only problem is I don't use it because I don't want overlap.

Last question....now I’m wiring the cam sensors and solenoids...
How did you connect the cam sensor? (pins into the MS3X)
Did you change something inside the board? Resistor, potentiometer, etc

No need to change anything in board. Crank goes to crank and cam went to a spare input that you can assign in tunerstudio. I think i did pt4 input.

Yes, Crank is connected to crank in v3.0 board, cam 1 in MS3X board but cam2 I don’t know where it should be connected...

If you look at the video, I took the spare Pin 31 = PT4 wire and connected the 2nd cam to this then changed the settings in TS.

Yes most people shy away from the VQ let alone MS. You however need to verify your sensor's voltage. Earlier VQ's run 12v to CAM/Crank. Newer ones are 5v. If you have 5v ones, to make life easy, I would swap out with 12v ones.

According with the FSM, my sensors are feeded with 12V and send 5V signal (engine from nissan Pathfinder 2003)

Awesome...yes the logic will be 5v. Your project looks interesting. Any more pics or vids? Good luck with build.

Thanks!! First I was fighting with the engine trying to purge the air from cooling system but the air won the battle. I used a spill free funnel but seems that there is a air pocket inside of the engine. Finally I installed a inline thermostat to solve this issue.
I was running MS2 Wasted spark and batch fire, 36-1 trigger wheel and VR sensor. I upgraded MS2 to MS3X and I installed 36-2-2-2 wheel, i kept the ve sensor in crank I connected the cam sensor (hall) and setup TS as full secuential and COP but the engine won’t start.
I tried to change TS and I’ve put semi-secuential and wasted cop and I came back to 36-1 trigger wheel but the engine won’t start.
I’ve wired spark A to coil N°1, B-2, C-3......F-6 and the same with the injection, A1.....F-6 because the fire order so 1-2-3-4-5-6

Tomorrow I will try to start the engine again to check the cam timing

I have photos of my project on FB, http://www.facebook.com/opcdesign
I working alone so it has took time. Now I have to finish the engine to finish my project.
