Boost Control - What Am I Doing Wrong?

Post by Scottie-GNZ »

Trying to set up boost control for the first time with a single DIYAutotune solenoid and open-loop. As per Matt Cramer, and as expected, the solenoid should run up to 100% DC, but it does not. In test mode, starting at 20% and increments of 10, it pulses up to 50%. From 60% on up, it clicks once then nothing. Thinking I might have a bad solenoid, I got another one locally (identical 31891H) and it does the same thing. I've tried with the frequency set to 19.5, 26 and 39, all within the published range of the solenoid and get the same results. Other than the control pin setting, I'm not sure if the Boost Control Settings have any direct impact while testing, but I've included a pic.

Appreciate any feedback....tks.

Do have an oscilloscope to see if the MS is driving the solenoid?

Do you have a flyback diode installed or the wire mod done when installing the MS3x card (if thats what you have)?

It was purchased as a fully assembled MS3X box.

Possibly not then - check with your supplier.

It says you need nothing added to the circuit if using MS3X??? Is this incorrect information on DIYautotune?

AFAIK, nothing is needed to make boost control work. Haven't had a chance to follow up on this yet.

We've found that flyback diodes tend to result in a slower closing time when used with a boost control solenoid. We wouldn't have put one on our assembled MS3X units.
