No rpm signal MS3X V3.0

Post by Nmcilwain »

I have the Ms3X v3.0 and cannot get a rpm signal at all . I can get tps to work and coolant with the jimstim. I have tried with the Jimstim and tried it connected to the car and still I get nothing, I took it back apart and looked over the solder joints to see if I something bridged or something backwards but can't see anything. This is 6.0 lq4 that I'm putting this on. I don't know what my next move is. I made a log and its just straight line dead.
Any ideas on what to check next, I'm in so deep with this I don't know what to do next.
I have attempted to post the logs. I hope I did it right.
I am absolutely in over my head with this thing .

Thanks,
Neil Mcilwain

Post the MSQ

Pictures of the mainboard, both sides, may help too.

Could someone possibly show a pic of how they placed the jumpers and wires to trigger their Jimstim and JimstimX for a MS3x for a LS1 ? I tried multiple ways but was never sure if I ever was right.

Thanks,
Neil

Hi Neil. Here is a pic of how I have my Jimstim and JimstimX wired and jumpered.
It's set as a 60-2 with the dip switches with 12v pull up on the vr for primary tach and 5v pull up for the 2nd tach input. I have 5v and gnd jumpers going to the JimstimX and as you can see I've got the 2nd trigger wire going to the cam input of the JimstimX.
I also have it jumpered for the wideband.

I know these probably aren't the settings what you require and you'll need to set it in TunerStudio to match, but nevertheless it may get you up and running test wise on the bench.

Edit: I should also mention that my MS3X is set up for a hall sensor for the cam input with regards the trim pots.

Did you set "60-2" in your MSQ?

Why is your spark output set to going low. Unless your cops need that setting. Most are going high I believe.
You have adjusted your trim pots as per the hardware manual for both the crank sensor and cam sensor haven't you?
If they're not set correctly then the pulses won't be detected.

I tried it both ways and also adjusted r52 and r56 several times. Still no signal.

Alas, I haven't been able to view those photos much. It's a format I'm not familiar with and haven't found a way to zoom-in on them. Any guidance? I'm using Win8/Chrome, with Firefox also available.

In your pic you need to set main wheel speed to 'Crank wheel' not 'Cam wheel' also.

Ok on the 60-2 wheel setup I changed the wheel speed from cam to crank. Still no signal. Is there a certain area that I could check or test ...resistors , diodes etc... that could cause this? I really believe this is something I probably made a mistake on.

Put the MS3X board and its stim aside for now, remove it as a possible problem/confusion until you have the basic "tachin" (rpm display) under control.

Pictures I can look at (or help in using the ones already posted) is the only way I can check over the board build. Probing with a meter may get tedious/frustrating if there is something wrong or incomplete with the assembly.
