SD Card issues - anyway to "reset" the card while engine run

Post by krisr »

Hey guys, just got a question on the SDcard logging. Occasionally i've had my SDcard screw up in the worst possible times when I start logging (like in the staging lanes just before the burnout) and from what I can find, the only way to clear or "reset" the SD card if it has an issue and starts to blink away the error code is to shut the car off and start it up again - which makes you look like a bit of a chump in the lanes. The SDcard works, sometimes it'll write, sometimes it'll play up. Is there any way or a combination of button presses on the datalog button that'll reinitialize the SDcard whilst the motor is running and/or even format the SD card if it's become corrupt.

I generally only keep a handful of logs on the card so if I had to format it in the staging lanes with the button in the hope that I can grab the data then i'd be all over that like a rash!

Something like this would be cool:
5 button presses for + 1 confirmation for reset.
10 button pressures + 1 confirmation for format.

Cheers!

If the card has genuinely got in a mess it needs a powercycle, unfortunately MS3 cannot powercycle the card.

What firmware are you using? I made some changes that should help reliability recently. They are available in 1.5.1

Yeah i'm running the 1.5.1 firmware. I think I might buy a couple of new cards. Is there any recommendation on what brand/size cards to buy? I remember ages ago I read that 2Gb cards were recommended, but you can't buy them over here anymore unless I get them from eBay or something....

Just bumping this as the SD card "feature" is probably the most frustrating feature in MS3-land atm for me. I was out in the car today after replacing my SD card for the 3rd time now, and decided to try a "fast" SDHC card. Was datalogging my trip in the motorway as I wanted to capture the AFR/TPS/MAP/VSS so I can tweak the fuelling at 60mph and the datalog light was flashing away happy as can be, stopped the log when I got to where I needed to be, then on the drive back I thought i'd log the drive home and the SD card crapped out with flashed 5 times (unsupported card? is in the docs...) which is WTF, considering it just logged perfectly one way. Anyhow I got home and pulled the card and found that my previous logs were gone and the only log on the card was corrupted!!!

Surely i'm not the only one that has tried around 5-6 different SD cards without any success?

Cheers
Kris

Possibly the SD card connector going bad? Or try reeucing the SPI baudrate.
