Single Coil/GM ICM

Post by Gerrot »

Hey guys, I have a car in that MUST STAY single coil. Customers request....Must look Carb'd when done. lol. 385CI SBC. Fast Dual Sync Distributor. MS3x setup. Sequential fuel. Single MSD ignition Coil.

Question; instead of using the Bosch 124 ICM, I am looking into using a GM 4 PIN ICM from the Vortec 5.7/4.3 engines. The pinouts from both show they operate the same, but looking for a little verification. I dug all day to see if this has been used, and I have not found much. Both are power/ground, Low input and Ground output. I have diagnosed the GM units, worked with them, and can get them easy, just never used them in this fashion. Never used the Bosch 124 in my life, but the manual mentions to use it when you are running single coil.

Also, Set the ICM up off "Spark A" wire on MS3X board... with settings Single coil/MS3X Spark?

Wish I could just toss LS coils on and be done, but I can't this time.

Thanks guys.

Is this the module/coil like in this diagram?

That should work fine. I haven't personally tested it, but I looked into the Haynes manual and it seems ok.

Yep, same module shown, minus the fact I will be using a MSD coil vs the OE coil. Per my ShopKeyPro, they both appear to act the exact same, and I can get these cheap and easy. But because it was cheap and easy... thought that might throw me a problem just tossing it in the mix!

Thanks guys!!!!

I put together some extra notes on this module, as we had a lot of customers asking about it: https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tec ... on-module/
