Add on to test for best timing on a dyno
Is there some add on that would allow you to arrive at the best timing when you're holding the engine at a given rpm and you increase dyno load accordingly ?

Really want to see something like that too, but I think only a few folks are really interested in this. Mostly the ones who don't know Java...
I do think there's one 'catch' to solve though... There's no physical connection to the Dyno and TunerStudio, so how does the Dyno or TS "know" when best power/best timing has been achieved? By User input?

As far as a know a dyno has a closed loop type of control that keeps the engine at a certain rpm by varying load. So the engine would have to increase throttle until at a point where additional throttle input doesn't result in an a higher load/rpm. At that point you begin tuning the ignition by varying it upwards. Of course you would need an input from the dyno that represents the power made. As far as I know most dynos have 0-5V output for that purpose. You could get that into ms with some of the generic inputs.

You're right about the closed loop part on the dyno to maintain speed while increasing the brake-load.
I don't know if the dyno I went to has this option, probably does.
But I could ask the next time I'm there for a new session.

Almost all of the brake dynos can hold rpm. The important part is keeping the rest steady (tps or map).

Sorry if this is all wrong, but I thought load dynos displayed power in real time as they hold rpm constant. I'm picturing 2 guys, one guy holding MAP constant by modulating the throttle, and the other guy nudging timing until max power at that RPM/MAP cell is reached. Then move to the next RPM/MAP cell.
This is what I planned to do if I ever get around to making a dyno appointment.

hm, I thought that an engine dyno at least had some sort of throttle control as well. Not sure about the rolling road types. For those I assume at least you need your foot, which might explain some erratic tps and map behavior.
