Not reversed. The ECU is on my desk. The 12v power supply is plugged into the Stim board. The black wire of the multimeter is touching the ground of the power supply, and am using the red lead to test the components on the board (including the ground holes in the proto area) after checking that I have 12 v at the power supply connector.
The ECU had been working in the car until today, when I had the ignition on while messing with some fuel sender wiring. It must of shorted through the ECU ground circuit causing my current predicament?
Thanks,
WOW, was that easy to screw up! Need help.

1972 BMW 3.0 CS, v3.0 board, MS3 + MS3X, external MAP, VR-sensor, 60-2 crank, CAM gear tooth sensor, wasted spark, sequential
Update
Ok. So I replaced D9, D19 and U5 today. The correct 5 v is back at Proto area, D9 non-banded, U5 rt leg, D19 banded, 1,20,31 CPU. However, the unit is still not working. I cannot get communications via the serial cable to the laptop, nor does anything happen when the unit is connected in the car (no initial fuel pump on with when the ignition is first switched on).
Are there any other tests that can be done on the daughterboard or MS3X board? I vaguely remember that if any of the daughterboard pins saw 12 v, that it would fry components on the board. Should I send into DIYautotune for testing/replacement?

Re: Update
If the processor received 12V, it's very likely that it's permanently damaged. You can try the serial loopback tests outlined here:SvenCS wrote:Ok. So I replaced D9, D19 and U5 today. If the first test (step 9) succeeds, but the second test (step 16) fails, then the RS-232 transceiver (U6) is probably damaged. If the second test succeeds (or you replaced U6 and now the second test succeeds) and you still can't connect to your ECU, then the processor is most likely damaged -- especially since it's not even sending the fuel pump priming signal.
re: Update
Both test #9 and #16 worked. #8, the one where you type in a capital 'S' did not. It returned no processor info. After test #16 I plugged in the old MS2 daughterboard. The com channel worked - as it recognized the old firmware and wanted to update. So it looks like I will need a new board (hopefully just the MS3 daughterboard and not the MS3X board). Thanks for your help.

This has nothing to do with this specific post, but.......
Could we get a specific board hardware troubleshooting forum on msextra? For instance, this is burried in the MS2 Extra specific help, but it applies to anyone running a v3.0 board (ms1/2/3).
About 1 year ago I had a need to to some board troubleshooting, and thought the most appropriate forum was the troubleshooting section of msefi. My thread was deleted on muliple occaisions because I use extra code (in that case MS3). Since most users now use msextra, we really need a non firmware specific board troubleshooting forum. When I fixed my issue (while it was very trivial to find and fix provided information) there was NO place I was allowed to post or search for information besides firmware specific forums.
