rubber gloves

Post by jjmclure »

This might be a stupid question - I have ordered a wrist anti static strap but I was wondering, would wearing rubber gloves inhibit static when assembling an ms board?

Rubber and latex, like most insulators, can build a significant charge. There are static dissipative (i.e. conductive) latex gloves, but you should still use an ESD wrist strap with them.

IMO, the wrist strap is pretty much a must. I doubt that rubber gloves are necessary but would keep body oils etc. from contaminating the board contacts.

The big plus would be no finger prints! (they will never trace the board back to you!)
