MS2 Assembled.. now I need to drive COP

Post by Juan_Pa »

Hello everyone, I have assembled my MS2 V3.0 and running MS2/Extra firmware 3.3.1a.. I have installed the high current ignition driver, not using an ignition module, I will use this MS2 on a VAG 1.8T 20v engine with COP, I would like to use it like this.. now.. Im kind of new on this.. can I do this setup on a MS2?? http://www.msextra.com/doc/general/spar ... html#logic ... do I have to change the high current ignition driver for a logic level ignition output?? what need to be changed??

Thanks for your help

Yes, that is exactly what you'd do, if you have a wiring diagram of the COP's we could merge them together and make it clear which wire goes where.

I found this, is it helpful?? My COPs are the one from VAG 4 wire.

Also, do I have to remove the jumper from IGBTOUT to IGN?

time for you to tell us how many coils you are going to try to drive? You will need to undo any mods you made so far that pertain to high current drivers I believe.

http://www.msextra.com/doc/general/spar ... html#logic are the instructions you should use if you are using 4 cops logic outputs .

Thanks for your answer.. I want to drive 4 coils... Do I need to undo the step #65? The high current ignition driver circuit?

I would think so.

You don't have to remove the components if you don't want; clipping the IGBTIN and IGBTOUT jumpers would be enough.

Question... Can I use FIDLE to activate a solenoide?? I am using a stepper motor IAC.. I am not using JS10 can I use that port to activate another device??

Thanks for your help and comments.

If Im not mistaken......JS10 and Fidle are (can be used as ) both universal i/o pins . Fidle is good on its own up to .8 amps ...js10 probably needs to only activate the field of a relay (I cant seem to find what that pin is capable of amperage wise.) I wouldnt try and use that to drive a solenoid directly. Have a look for yourself http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms3/hardware.html#pins

Be very wary when comparing the MS3 and MS2 pins, even if you're staying with the V3.0 pins. It's easy to get distracted.

JS10 is a bare processor pin, and just the act of THINKING of using it to drive a relay directly can damage your daughter card. An output drive circuit must be built (similar to FP or FIdle, on the proto area or elsewhere) to actually handle it. Now. The fact that this pin can be used as an output for spark A , Sequential Shift, AC Idle or a tach clearly shows that it is an output pin as well as an input, BUT the code is not set up to allow its use as a programmable output. You'll need to either modify the code yourself, or lobby James and Ken to add this option in the next upgrade.

Actually, if you're running COP, you need JS10 for the Cam signal for sequential ignition. If you don't use JS10 for that function, you can only run wasted spark, in which case you have D15 and JS11 (spark C & D) available for programmable outputs. If you decide to run VAG COPs in wasted spark, I woud strongly recommend switching your ignition drivers to the new TC4427 circuit.

Thanks I had to buy a lot of TC4427 in my country is kind of hard to find it, so lets build the circuit. Thanks for your sugestion

Ok.. now I dont know what option I have... driving the 4 coils I am using the output ports R26, R27, R29 and JS11, I am not using JS10 for the cam input.. now I need an output port to activate the solenoid of the Variable Cam the use will be only on/off. How can I do that??

Are you using FIdle for anything? It is intended to drive an on/off solenoid.

Please read the RELEASE-NOTES.txt that comes with the firmware.
