MS3X Jimstim and stimX, no cam?

Post by BlueCuda »

Good Morning,

MS3 V3.0 with MS3X card. I have had it running in on tuner studio with no trouble until I try to make it work sequential then it says I do not have a cam signal setup.

The Jimstim is set up for a 35-1 wheel and everything works when in batch fire mode, inputs, outputs(the ones I have tested) all seem to be working great. I have looked but have not found a definitive way to hook the cam signal up. I have the secondary trigger plugged in and the power jumper on and hooked to the jimstimX cam location but I get an error when I try to set up full sequential. I am thinking I am missing a jumper somewhere or maybe something in tuner studio.

This is my first EFI setup of anykind other than stock daily driver stuff. Thanks for your help.

From the documentation:
JP7 is a jumper for a pullup on the "Cam" input. This is typically required with hall or optical sensor inputs. It should not be used with VR sensor inputs.
When using hall or optical sensors inputs, the cam input adjustment potentiometers should be set as follows. Turn both pots (R11 and R32) full anti-clockwise - approx five turns. Then turn the top one (R11) two turns clockwise.
When using a VR (magnetic) sensor input, the cam input adjustment potentiometers should be set as follows. Turn both pots (R11 and R32) full anti-clockwise - approx five turns. This is usually the right setting.

You'll want to follow the hall/optical setup.

Hmmmm I bet the JP7 is my problem, I have done the other settings. I must have missed the JP7 part, I will check when I get home. Thanks!

"IT" Is the warning message that tuner studio pops up when I switch to sequential.

What does it say - exactly ?

Have you followed its advice?

I'm not at home right now to see exactly what it says, it doesn't give advice but it does say it is lacking cam input. I have the JimStim set to what i believe is correct.

I think somehow I breezed over the jumper mentioned above and will correct that and see what I get.

Thanks for the responses.

It is a configuration setting problem
e.g. you have configured the Megasquirt to have a crank signal only but that's not enough to run sequential.

See http://msextra.com/doc/ms3/trigger-wheel.html for valid combinations for sequential.

Since I hate searching and finding unresolved threads I wanted to follow up on this. Somehow I couldn't wrap my head around the dual wheel deal, James pointed me to the right settings but it didn't sink in. Matt with DIY got me lined out though and now it functions great in sequential. Thanks for the responses, i hope to keep my dumb questions to a minimum   and I will do more :RTFM:
